The reason why she was sentenced to lashes is because they feel that if a woman is raped, she must have been tempting the rapist to do it. This is why women are forced to wear veils and full covering, so that they do not "tempt" men. Therefore, it is decided that she did something wrong to "tempt" the man to do it, or it would have never happened. Talk about backwards. But remember, we can't judge other cultures now! You dope, i never said i agree with it. Others here seem to think that her punishment was the result of being raped. If you read the title that is a likely conclusion, but as soon as you read the FIRST sentence you find out this is not the case. Oh well, i didnt expect much from you anyway. No, if you had bothered to read the text you would have seen that she was sentenced to lashes because she was alone in a car with a man who was not a member of her family (which is actually a crime in Saudi Arabia). The rape had actually nothing to do with it.
It actually seems to have been a "fair" trial for once to the extent that the men also got punished (including the man she was traveling with who had done nothing wrong, except being in the cae).

Not that it makes it less absurd or barbaric.

No. She was sentenced to lashes because she was alone with a man, who was also sentenced to the same punishment, by the way.

If you want to argure that their laws about men and women being alone are ridiculous, then do so. But please stop making things up.

Utterly wrong, as usual. All America would have to do to never have to deal with the ME again would be to make it against the law to drive (not sell) any vehicle that didn't get 50 mpg highway, including trucks and SUV's. Trucks used for hauling would obviously get a pass. We'd never, ever have to think about ME oil again.
