Is that your best excuse?

In that case, the US has no other choice but to deal with these ME wackos.

The reason why she was sentenced to lashes is because they feel that if a woman is raped, she must have been tempting the rapist to do it. This is why women are forced to wear veils and full covering, so that they do not "tempt" men. Therefore, it is decided that she did something wrong to "tempt" the man to do it, or it would have never happened. Talk about backwards. But remember, we can't judge other cultures now! It's wrong!

I hate to see what the punishment is for a woman who almost gets murdered.

She didn't get punished because she was raped, RTFA.

QFT.

No sh!t. Its in the FIRST sentence after the kneejerks work their way past the title.

You are right, sitting in a car with a man. That should have been 200 lashes, what were we thinking?

You dope, i never said i agree with it. Others here seem to think that her punishment was the result of being raped. If you read the title that is a likely conclusion, but as soon as you read the FIRST sentence you find out this is not the case. Oh well, i didnt expect much from you anyway. Way to live up to my low expectations of you.

I am the dope? That is a good laugh, maybe if you didnt respond in a knee jerk way you wouldnt look like such a douchebag now?

No, if you had bothered to read the text you would have seen that she was sentenced to lashes because she was alone in a car with a man who was not a member of her family (which is actually a crime in Saudi Arabia). The rape had actually nothing to do with it.
It actually seems to have been a "fair" trial for once to the extent that the men also got punished (including the man she was traveling with who had done nothing wrong, except being in the cae).

Not that it makes it less absurd or barbaric.

No. She was sentenced to lashes because she was alone with a man, who was also sentenced to the same punishment, by the way.

If you want to argure that their laws about men and women being alone are ridiculous, then do so. But please stop making things up.

Yeh, the Baathist regime was a brutal dictatorship, but at least it was a modern state, not a feudal system based on the divine right of kings and ancient folk superstition embodied into law... with radicalized islam serving as cover...

sad but likely true :(

This is why we are culturally superior and we need to have more confidence in ourselves and our laws. Less we invite their barbarism into our homes through multiculturalism?s understanding of practices such as this.

 Its funny how you learn so much about the problems of the past, yet people repeat it over and over again as if they never heard of the past.

Oh - and for this act...its the Saudis. Absolute idiots if you ask me. Even to most Saudis they probably know their laws are full of Sh|t. But of course it keeps their corrupt political clergy happy as they watch men and women who are not related getting lashes, but they turn a blind eye when the elites go out of their way to get little girls for their pleasure.

WHAT? Only 90 lashes? WTF! The Saudis are getting soft these days, they should've caned her and tasered her genitals too! Same with the rapists! Singapore would've gotten it right!

The religion of peace shows its true colors once again!

Well, the super conservative side of that religion anyway...but yeah, pretty lame - kinda like us mouthing off to the world about standing up for human rights, freedom, and liberty (some restrictions may apply...)

There are plenty of examples of christian countries operating in decidely un-christian like fashions; is the entire religion and its adherents damned by association? No, and it's stupid to do the same thing with Islam.

I'm sure you know that their government is in power because of our money, weapons and suppprt. If the US support would disappear, they would not last a year. The question is, instead of posting dishonestly titled posts, what have you done to change our and Israel's support for those barabarians?

its late and I probably misunderstood what you meant, but were you talking about my thread title?

every thread title I post linked to an article uses the article's headline

Utterly wrong, as usual. All America would have to do to never have to deal with the ME again would be to make it against the law to drive (not sell) any vehicle that didn't get 50 mpg highway, including trucks and SUV's. Trucks used for hauling would obviously get a pass. We'd never, ever have to think about ME oil again.

Well the Saudi's knocked down the Twin Towers so this sort of behavior is nothing new - good think Iraq is no longer influencing their bad manners!
