How did you equip the MINI to get it to $30,000-$35,000? If you did it, I'd have to call you a sucker, and I own a MINI.

They are the same platform, just different skins, basically.

Mini S converables start at $25000- with all the options I wanted it came out to $29500. Go check out Mini's website. I take it you have a hard top.

Anybody spending $30k on a Mini should be summarily executed.

Last I checked, I was able to do whatever I wanted with my cash, and I had a Mini S ragtop decked out to my specifications, and that was the cost- which I was happy with. Better performance and cheaper than an Audi TT convert, WAY cheaper than a 350z convert, it has a back seat for the kids, and I like the interior.

The Sky and Solstice = platform sharing (what GM SHOULD be doing).
The Silverado/Sierra, Tahoe/Yukon, Venture/Montana/Terazza/Relay = badge engineering (BAD BAAAAAAAAAAAAAD)

Of course they'e the same, where have you been? I guess you don't do much reading on new cars, and/or read too many car threads on this forum. For every chassis used in the car industry today, there's at least 1 other car that shares it.

So although I agree that GM is sucking lately, how is it that because they use the same chassis/platform for multiple automobiles, they automatically suck? Obviously you don't know much about the auto industry as a whole, or you would know that every manufacturer does this, and lots of them are shared between different manufacturers.

Thanks for the snobby response

I'm asking if these are going to be like Ford's Taurus and Mercury's Sable, where it was the same car with slight cosmetic differences. The tranny, engine and the rear end look nearly the same, they're made the same way, with the only noticable difference being the front end.

NSF4- thanks, that answered my question.

What options are you going for? It sounds like the 4 packages plus leather. Having had pretty much every option over the course of two MINIs, many of them aren't really that necessary and end up taking away from the fun of the vehicle by adding lots of weight.

Basic platform is the same. No body panels are shared, the interior is totally different, the level of standard equipment is different and the suspsension tuning is different.

This is platform sharing. This would be similar to a Camry vs Camry Solara or Avalon or ES330.

Or a Civic Coupe vs an Acura RSX. Same basic underbody, different execution.

The Sky is sexy. It is my new Desktop.

I'll look into getting the Redline version whenever it is released, depending on how much cash I have, how much they are, and whatever is on the used market at the time.

Come on now, I was going to actually answer until you said that about the kids 😉 Maybe if you're a dwarf and your kids have no limbs 😀

The Sky definately looks better than the Soltice.
I rememebered seeing somewhere that the Sky cost more than the Soltice ?? I know the Soltice is priced at $19,995.

Uhhh... You are honestly going to pay $2,000 for OEM wheels/tires? :Q

I like the looks of the sky better than the solstice. However, you won't see me driving either. Not because I care what others think, but because I'm not a big fan of roadsters.

Give me a '91-'93 240SX though, and I'll be all over it. 🙂

Yep...I like the way they look and the dealer covers them under warranty. Last two experiences I had buying rims from a 3rd party ended in disaster (including a Mustang that lost a wheel while driving out of the parking lot), so never again.

I THINK the Sky is more lux. and comes with more options standard. The Pontiac is a stripped down sprts version that you can add options or maybe race with no AC and such/

Solstice comes with 18" wheels standard. Bigger tires = better handling.
