NEW YORK (BNO NEWS) -- A painful slip of the tongue for former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin on Wednesday when she accidentally mixed up North and South Korea during a radio interview.

Palin has recently said she is considering a run for the presidency and told ABC News that she believes she can beat Barack Obama in the 2012 presidential elections. On Wednesday, Palin was asked during a radio interview with Glenn Beck how she would handle the current situation on the Korean peninsula.

"This is stemming from, I think, a greater problem when we are all sitting around [and] asking; oh no, what are we going to do?" Palin said. "We aren't having a lot of faith that the White House is gonna come out with a strong enough policy to sanction what it is that North Korea is gonna do."

But a few seconds later, Palin got the countries mixed up. "But obviously we gotta stand with our North Korean allies," she said. "We are bound to treaties," Palin continued, before Beck corrected her.

The mistake set off an immediate firestorm on the Internet. "Please [keep] doing interviews. Each one provides more evidence that you are utterly clueless," one user wrote on Twitter. Others were less critical about the small mistake. "She misspoke, it happens all the time, this is a slip up that can be easily made," another user commented.

Palin was U.S. Senator John McCain's vice presidential nominee during the 2008 presidential elections. And while she seemed a good choice at first, reports later indicated that it was very different behind the scene.

In the book 'Game Change', political journalists John Heilemann and Mark Halperin said that Palin had to be taken through World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Cold War and the War on Terror.

"After the [Republican] convention was over, she still didn't really understand why there was a North Korea and a South Korea," Heilemann said during an interview, while adding that Palin believed Iraq's Saddam Hussein was behind 9/11.

Note, the top entry is... a comment defending, you guessed, Sarah Palin from a gaffe last month, by citing the years-old Obama 57 states gaffe.

That time, she was talking about her 'party like it's 1773' gaffe about the revolution.

At some point of degree and a pattern, the politician moves from 'gaffe' to 'Quayle'.

Do her next 100 gaffes - next 1000 - all get to play the '57 states' card?

Let's be fair, these stories tend to get more attention when they fit a narrative - rightly or wrongly, sometimes they're manufactured and false (e.g., Gore the big liar).

When something fits that, people notice it. If Michelle Obama says *anything* about not loving her country, it'll get grabbed a lot more than without that story's history.

Palin has a pattern and a history after many gaffes that make it of more interests as she continues to make more, just as Dan Quayle did.

I used to make a comment like you did about Quayle, defending him that there was unfairness, until he made more and more that were bad enough to decide it was fair.

Palin has demonstrated such a contempt for a leader being informed, a contempt for voters with answers like her being qualified on foreign policy because she can see a Russian plane fly over, just proudly wearing the badge of ignorance, that it is fair to attack her for it IMO, rather than treat her as a likely presidential candidate, holding her to some standard, when polls show she is a leading contender and ignorance isn't as funny when the President does it.

There is a filtering process thousands of would-be nominees go through that informally sorts the wheat from the chaff - sometimes - and stories like this, when real, help.

(And stories that aren't real, like Al Gore saying he invented the internet, are not usually helpful to the truth or to our country).

I agree with you, though, gaffe stories like this are over-hyped and this is the least of the reason for concern with Palin.

One of the most famous, though, was when President Ford in a presidential debate called Poland a free country. You can't think he was that ignorant, but it hurt.

An unfortunate slip of the tongue for her would be to lick Todd's bunghole instead of his taint.:p

If it was a slip of the tongue she would've corrected herself. Nobody says North Korea and not knows what that means once they hear their own voice.

Lefties just keep giving her attention, just keep giving her a stage. It's actually just very funny. Who the heck cares if someone misspeaks? I'm sure none of you have ever done that..... She's a twit, and she would have disappeared off the national scene long ago if it wasn't for all the attention (negative or positive doesn't really matter) lavished on her.

You don't seem to appreciate the genius of our plan: By doing our part to keep Palin in the public eye, we increase the odds she'll become the Republican nominee for President, thereby guaranteeing the Democrats another four years in the White House.

Backfire plan is backfire. Liberals foaming at the mouth over everything Palin is going to guarantee she isn't the nominee.

Palin really does need to go away. She's an ignorant redneck. That's all people are ever going to see of her. It perpetuates the myth that all right leaning politicos are like that. Surely the Republican Party has more talented, intelligent, and charismatic people that her. She's not fit to manage a Dunkin Doughnuts, let alone be president.

While I would ordinarily dismiss this as a common misspeak, she's had so many that I am inclined to believe that she is just too stupid to really know the difference.

Oh for sure she is. But even more entertaining than her - is the libs in this country falling over themselves to RAGE against her.

If anyone should be falling over themselves in rage it's you conservatives. Do you not realize that she has hijacked your party?
