The reason is obvious.

You really think a guy who dumped his first wife and children for a rich heiress model makes his decisions based on silly things like experience and readiness?

Anyone else posting that would have come off as funny. When you do it, it comes of as desperate.
Nah, it's still funny despite the poster. Plus, in reality, Palin being female and hot were probably the two main reasons McCain went after her. She's totally unqualified to just be VP, let alone POTUS if McCain kicks the bucket during his presidency.
She is about as qualified to President as Obama.

Of course if he wins Obama will be President from day one, Palin only becomes President if McCain dies while in office. The last time a President died a natural death in office was FDR 64 years ago, the odds are pretty good that he makes it.

Actually, according to the Washington Post, McCain was considering Palin from the start:

Far from being a last-minute tactical move or a second choice when better known alternatives were eliminated, Palin was very much in McCain's thinking from the beginning of the selection process, according to McCain's advisers. The 44-year-old governor made every cut as the first list of candidates assembled last spring was slowly winnowed. The more McCain learned about her, the more attracted he was to her as someone who shared his maverick, anti-establishment instincts.

Oh, and for a supposed "panic choice", Sarah Palin sure negated any bounce for Obama with Obama 49/McCain 48.

What is it all those Obama supporters keep saying about judgment and instinct trumping experience and that winning a campaign being demonstrative of Presidential timber? It's beginning to look like McCain's choice for VP blows Obama's away.

Plus, McCain was tortured for 6 years and doesn't have full motor control in one of his arms. Without question it shows bad judgment that McCain would pick a 44 year old VP with no experience running anything more than the state of Alaska, with most of her time spent as mayor of a 6,000 person town and 5 kids to boot. This seals it for a lot of women too; I talked to two 60+ year old women today who both echoed the same sentiments about poor judgment since he could die in office. Hell, they even said they thought she was too good looking.

I think it isn't a good story (McCain not in control of his own party) and the McCain advisers are spinning it to make him look better. What I've read from the big sources is that he had met her once, but before he picked her they had a long private meeting. If what you're saying is true he wouldn't have only met her one more time, from the beginning means he had her on his mind a couple months and he would've been meeting with her often.

No actually, the average of all polls on this matter show Obama with a likely comfortable 3-5% margin of victory, with him winning 81% of all polls recorded in August so far.

Yes, and sadly he could end up dying in office prematurely as a result (if he were to get elected in some highly unlikely hypothetical scenario).

I love that after just 2 days how much attention Palin is getting....... everyone scrambling trying to dig things up

For those that think she's going to whimp out come Debate Time, think again!
She's a tough bitch.

Yea she's going to need to get her beauty pageant runway shoes out - don't forget the make-up sweet cheeks.

I'm sorry but when you have a 72 year old guy supposedly keeping the terrorists away from America, if he kicks the bucket - I don't want some soccer mom radio host in control of my country's future.

Yes, by all means, let's discount the Washington Post and look to some other "big sources." Let me guess, would your sources include Democratic Underground and Daily Kos?

Yep, much better to have a community activist.

At least Obama has a Vice President to rely on for any possible advice. If Obama kicked the bucket (which is the analogy you failed to recognize), at least Biden would be able to pick up on that front and most others.

It's a shame you have never met a real woman.

And to expound on that....if Cheney were to kick the bucket, Palin would have a VP who would no doubt have great foreign policy experience. It's the circle of experience!

If nothing else, McCain selecting Palin has been an absolutely wonderful source of amusement, watching the frothing at the mouth liberals come up with all sorts of absurd idiotic stories to try and attack the selection when they simply don't have a real line of attack. "Baby is not hers!", "he only talked to her once!", "she has no experience!" (has more than Obama who's running for pres, not VP), "she's a soccer mom!", "she's a republican hack!". It's absolutely hilarious, keep'em coming folks 🙂

Just so we're clear, I agree, that's hilarious, and I also think there's no end of fun to the republican goobers who love her.

Taking politics seriously = lose. People need more Bill Hicks. Repeat after me: Taking life seriously is a waste of time.

I heard it from Governor Tim Kaine of Virginia that McCain had only once met and spoken to Sarah Palin about six months ago for just a couple of minutes before he called her cell phone last week and asked her to be his V.P. candidate?

What does that say about McCain?
Heck, I wouldn't hire a janitor without interviewing him, or at least speaking to him more than a few minutes. And yet McCain puts Palin on the ticket, a potential heart beat away from the Presidency in this manner?

Is it just me or does this seem like a SHOCKING lack of judgement?

Even if this is true, thats why they have VP Selection Committees. She was "vetted" by his senior campaign staffers. Hell Dick Cheney was head of Bush's selection committee and choose himself.

McCain was given a clean bill of health a couple months ago. Hes not likely to die in the next four years.

Go back and look at the age of deaths of recent Presidents.

Johnson was the last one to die before hitting 70. Before that FDR.

Compare that too:
H W Bush 84 and still going good
Reagan died at 93, 21 years older than McCain is today
Carter 83 and still building houses
Ford died at 93
Nixon 81
Johnson 64
JFK killed
Eisenhower 78
Truman 88
FDR 63
Hover 90
Coolidge 60

So 7 of the last 11 Presidents lived past 80, more importantly only 3 of the last 11 died prior to 76 the age McCain would be at the end of term one, that is a pretty good track record.
