Sapphire HD4870x2 Problems

Today I received my HD4870x2 to replace my 4870 512m. I am using an adaptor for the 8pin from the PSU. When ever I boot up the computer, it will run for about 20 seconds and then monitor shuts off, computer restarts or freezes.

I checked online and have been hearing mixed reviews about using a 650w PSU to run it. Most of them seem to say its enough to run it. A few times I was able to get up to windows and roam around but my fan control and CCC is unable to read the card even after installing Cat 8.9.

Anyone have any ideas on what might be wrong?

Computer Stats below.

Thanks

I'd research 4870 X2 minimum amps required from the 12v rails. You have 2 x 18A. Is it enough?

I am honestly not that much of a wizz when it comes to power consumtion. I found a chart but don't really have the slightest on what it means. Though it shows that it only uses up 265watts which makes the 650W PSU more than enough.

chart is here

I am running a Gigabyte P45 DS3L mobo.

Maybe the adapter is wrong

i got one that was mismatched to my needs

i just use the 6-pin connector and then connect the exposed pins with an alligator clip wired to a black molex ground

are you making sure that your card is firmly seated? are there any beeps? have you switched your connectors into the card? Maybe use a molex to pcie adapter for one of them

is your a CF MB? if so, try X2 in the other slot

Here's one post that talks about it. I'm not an expert on psu's, but am guessing amperage is too low.
