I just had a reply from Sapphire technical support. They said that the red LED on the back of the card refers to a thermal issue. Since the card is not on long enough to even get hot (it is cold to the touch), they have said that I need to RMA it.

This is a copy of the e-mail they sent me.

'Thank you for your mail. Sir, The Red LED light code is (D15)-R819 thermal issue. You need to contact your online reseller for checking and apply for RMA process. Thank you.'

If I get the same problem with the replacement card, then I will try the BIOS update.

I'm on a Rampage Formula and I've not had any significant problems with my 4870 X2. I've seen plenty of posts from people with X48 boards with no problems except the usual scaling things. I did a lot of research before buying the card. I have seen the DFI issues though.

Alright, well good luck with the RMA. Hopefully it goes smoothly.

It costs about $20.00. Probably about the same as the postage and packaging for the RMA.
Will this surfice for flash BIOS updates and testing of the core components?

perfect! edit: oops this thread has more posts.

Nope, Misco refunded me the full amount for the card (they don't replace; only refund and its up to you if you buy another card from them).

I didn't however get the p & p back which was about $22.00. So, if I order I again, I will have lost $22.00 (I will use the free P & P this time as I'm not in a rush).

Therefore in total I have lost $42.00 (including the cheap card I bought as a test) from the experience, which is annoying, but I'll live.

Wow, they even credited me the postage and packaging as well. This faulty card has cost me nothing to RMA. I'm surprised

I'm annoyed with Antec. Why don't they include the below paragraph which I found on their website in the f***ing 3-page instruction manual, which is a joke.

'1. What is the proper way to power my PCI-E video card with two power connectors on the card?

You should always use one of Quattro's 8-pin PCI-E connectors even if you only have 6-pin PCI-E connectors on your video card. If your video card has two PCI-E connectors, you should use one 8-Pin PCI-E connector (remove the 2-pin portion) and one 6-Pin PCI-E connector plugged into the red port on your TPQ power supply. '

It may not have been a dodgy graphics card after all becuase it may not have being getting enough power.

btw I used the two 6/8 pin PCI connectors labelled as such from the main loom - I didn't use a separate modular connector.

At least I know what to do next time when I buy the replacement card.
