Santorum Spokesperson Refers To Obama's 'Radical Islamic Policies'

HomerJS

Lifer
Alice Stewart, a spokesperson for Rick Santorum in an interview earlier with Andrea Mitchell saif President Obama had "radical islamic policies". She later called the show and claimed she misspoke.

Now my $.02. This was no accident. This woman is a pro, she knew exactly what she was doing. Its not the first time Santorum either directly or indirectly let the notion float that Obama is a secret Muslim. They knew it would catch the ear of the righties, continue the narrative that Barak Obama is foriegn and not one of us. Maybe Jay Carney in his next interview should say Santorum is secretly gay. Call the interviewer later and say he meant happy.

You nailed it. I had completely forgotten that Obama is foreign. Now that my memory has been refreshed, I will no longer vote for Obama and will vote for the GOP candidate.

Why is it that rabid lefties think that no one but themselves is capable of independent thought?

BTW, it's spelled Barack. That's how the Muslims spell it.

Thanks for being my spelling fairy. And to answer your question because righties are not capable...

She sounded high or drunk to me - those eyes did not look sober.

Leaving aside the "radical Islamic policies" part (which I consider a verbal gaffe, albeit a Freudian one), the idea that the President's policies on global warming represent some kind of "theological secularism" (whatever the hell that means) is just bizarrely stupid. I am at a loss to see how anyone could say that being pro-environment is not the more Christian perspective, as opposed to just exploiting the planet without a thought as to its long-term survival.

While I doubt it was intentional, It is possible that it is something used in more private conversation. It came out quite easily and without any alarm bells going off in her head, possibly suggesting a familiarity with the phrase. Pure speculation none the less.

Regardless of whether she misspoke or not, could someone enlighten me as to exactly which policies Ms. Steward was referring to that - even if temporarily - she considered "radically Islamic?"

Edit: Ah, I watched the video. It's the "energy exploration" policies that are "radically Islamic." So I modify my request: Can someone please tell me what "radical Islam's" position is on energy exploration, and where is that position documented?

'Secularism' is a buzzword for evangelicals meaning 'evil' almost.

More of the 'not one of us'.

I weep for my country.

Congrats talk radio and Faux, you've succeeded in reducing your base to a mass of ignorant nutjobs. I take comfort in knowing this 'going full cybersage' will not have the result your agendas are striving for, even if the process itself proves embarrassing and shameful for the whole country. We put up with Bush, we can hold out until the republican party finishes imploding.

I think lefties can be plenty stupid sometimes, and I don't happen to think all conservatives are idiots. On this particular topic though, as well as many others, there sure are a lot of conservatives demonstrating a lack of independent thinking.

Disliking Obama because you disagree with his goals or his methods is reasonable. Disliking him because you think he's a secret Muslim Kenyan Communist bent on destroying America because he hates freedom is just dumb. And the only reason anyone would actually think something like that is because there's an echo chamber convincing them that it's a reasonable view held by many people.

Micheal Medved played a clip of Santorum from the weekend where he was ripping into public education and how the feds and states need to get out of it and he would work to do such a thing. Baffling statement on the state level. Especially when you consider the ramifications that he is going to assume the power to tell a state to get out of public education. Not a small govt or states rights conservative with that comment.

But what I also found disturbing. His speech was so incoherent I honestly couldnt figure out what he was saying. He was babbling on about going back in time to the industrial revolution. I just shook my head.

It seems like there isnt a day this guy or one of his staff doesnt put their foot deep down their throats.

Yeh, I kind'a agree with the notion that the gaffe she let loose was out of habit. Amongst themselves, it seems logical for the extremists in the Repub party to say and think the way she "accidently" did in that interview. It speaks volumes about how unifying it is to think that way in lieu of facing the cold hard truth.

Fear sells, plain and simple. Which is the way radicals like to think...or are they unable to think any other way but?

Interesting that people don't realize when Santorum and his surrogates attack Obama for his belief ("Phoney Theology"), what he really does is reminding GOP primary voters of Romney's Mormon faith. (Note Romney's silence over many "faith" debates)

It's really fantastic to see religion playing such a big part in this year's election. The founding fathers would be thrilled to know we have come full circle.

Do you really think Willard wants to talk about "magic underwear", etc.? It'd make him look like a nut/cultist

I'd much prefer someone wearing magic underwear, who is primarily motivated by personal ambition (tell me who isn't, if she's running for the U.S. president) and will likely try to fix the country's economy for whatever's sake, to someone who stokes crass bigotry and will force reactionary values down everyone's throat using her power.

This is actually a very good political science experimental case.

Candidate A: Has a secular value system, but belongs to a somewhat-less mainstream religious sect
Candidate B: Has an theological-authoritarian value system, and belongs to a more mainstream religious sect

Obama has already made peace with America on faith, after the Rev. Wright scandal. When Santorum talks "Phony Theology," he speaks in code, against which Romney cannot defend himself effectively, at least among the GOP primary voters. I find it despicable but I expect no less from the frothy mix.

The Repub candidates are providing an excellent example of the "crabs in a bucket" syndrome, whereby when one crab crawls over the others and stretches out to reach for the rim of the bucket, another crab from below will instinctively crawl on top of the one reaching for the rim and then both get dragged back down to the bottom of the pile, ad infinitum.

It's probably something where Republicans say these things in private over and over and it gets stuck in their subconscious. Wouldn't be surprised if one of them 'accidentally' slips the N-word one of these days.
