I would argue my point but I'd probably lose lol
I would just say that I like Eminem's lyrics (they can get annoying though) I find them creative and funny, whereas I haven't heard anything from Santana, especially not recently, that isn't just a decent cheesy solo.

Eminem isen't a talented rapper, he's just another ass people choose to identify with. He talks sh*t well I should put it. I have alot of black family/friends (black myself) and I've yet to meet a man of color who listens to his music, even though they solely listen to R&B/Rap. People who instist on belittling rap, screw you to. Rap currently is the rock music of the past that people used to nag their kids about, grow up and deal with it, it's here to stay.

Santana's older stuff is awesome. It's just great music. He was an extremely prolific musician in the 60s and 70s.

And I think he likes "rap" music - he did a song with Wyclef Jean.

But now he's whoring to everyone. Ah well.

Ok....let's see. I reject hip hop as an art form because it has very little if any redeeming value. Most, not all but most, of it is full of violance, the degredation of women, and the glorification of a thug/gangsta/drug lifestyle. Yeah....that's a valuable contribution to humanity.

Well said, but Eminem is actually quite a talented rapper. No I dont agree with many of his statements and his image is a complete joke, but he is a very good MC. Just listen to "Renegade" where he is featured with Jay-Z. He runs circles around him, and although Jay-Z isn't exactly a rapper phenom, Eminem shows him up. I know many black people who think Eminem is a great rapper but don't really agree with his image. It's hard to deny his talent as much as you may hate him.

No it's not. 20 years from now you will not be hearing the classic/oldies/whatever you want to call it stations playing rap. You know what though....they will still be playing The Beatles, Led Zep, CCR, The Eagles, etc, etc, etc....

Some Sugarhill Gang perhaps? My point is that you won't be hearing Eminem, Snoop Dogg, etc 20 years from now. They will have faded into the dustbin of history.

I totally agree with you. Every generation has its own "devil music". Whether it be Elvis, the Who, Kiss, Poison, Run DMC or any of the other main stream musicians who sort of go against the flow. In 10 or 15 years they are going to be as common place as the Beatles, Kiss or even Black Sabbath are now.

Just to clarify, I am not saying the music total is devil music, just that it is looked down upon by some people in society.

People that don't play instruments aren't musicians...? Ooooookay, yeah, right-o. Sorry, as a singer, I hate that......generalization. I can play the piano, could probably play lots of things (can play the clarinet too ;)), but singing is my biggest passion. I'm not a pro or anything, but even as I am now I would like to be considered a musician.

That's true but there are very few new artists, rap or otherwise, that I expect to hear in 20 years.

The Beatles, Led Zep, CCR, The Eagles, etc, etc, etc.... were at the forefront of their genre, just like Sugarhill Gang, Furious Five, Run DMC...

Be who cut rap are stupid. Rap only makes up about 20-30% of my music listening BUT I ENJOY and respect the rap I have. Anyone who cuts an artist or a person because they sing rap or listen to rap can eat my goober.

So an art form's themes are what determine its value? I should hope not...let's take a look at another genre. Cocaine by Eric Clapton comes to mind as a song glorifying drugs. I could name a thousand rock songs that glorify promiscuity and objectification of women. Sadly, as I said, you are ignorant and uninformed as you believe that all rap consists of "bitches, hos, crack and guns" when in fact, the best hip/hop/rap music is by artists such as Talib Kweli, Mos Def, The Roots, Outkast, Nas and the like.

To classify all rap by your ideas that your feeble mind has gathered from the few songs you've heard on FOX News is pathetic. To quote one particularly positive song:

Boys and girls, listen again/
This is for grown looking girls who's only ten/
The ones who watch videos and do what they see/
As cute as can be, up in the club with fake I.D./
Careful, before you meet a man with H.I.V/
You can host TV like Oprah Winfrey/
Whatever you decide, careful some men be/
Rapists, so act your age, don't try to be older than you are/
Give yourself time to grow, you're thinking he can give you wealth/

But so young boys, you could use a lot of help you know/
Thinking life's all about smoking weed and ice/
You dont wanna be my age and can't read and write/
Begging different women for a place to sleep at night/
Smart boys turn to men and do whatever they wish/
If you believe you can achieve, then say it like this/

I know I can/
Be what I wanna be/
If I work hard at it/
I'll be where I wanna be/

Before we came to this country/
We were kings and queens, never porch monkeys/
...
If the truth is told/
The youth can grow/
They'll learn to survive until they gain control/
Nobody says you have to be gangsters, hoes/
Read more, learn more, change the globe/
Ghetto children, do your thing

Just one...think before you spout off!

And is that the kind of rap that is wildly popular and what kinds clamor to get? Ummmmm....no. They want the garbage spewed forth by the likes of Eminem.

and he's good at it. Much better at that than Santana is at guitar playing :D

Who cares what "they" want. Dismissing decades of hip hop culture as crap because of the mainstream pop crap rap is an insult to true hip hop artists.

The problem with people's perception of rap is that they only see it on MTV. Most of the rap videos on MTV really do degrade women. MTV can be blamed for that and it has turned into total crap. What evey happened to the awesome videos of the 80's. There were some controversial videos but nothing like you see now.

Hip Hop Culture. It's a culture now is it? Something along the lines of the great cultures of history. The Egyptians, The Greeks, The Romans, The Hip Hops. Somehow I don't see it fitting in there anywhere. I mean sure, it makes more sense than an empire based on furniture, The Ottomans, but still....it's a bit silly to call Hip Hop a culture.

Would you call Jazz a culture? I sure would. What about blues, rock and roll, disco? All of those are cultures, just like hip hop ... and although you may not like their products (you dont like hip hop, I dont particularly like disco) denying their existence is pointless, as it exists whether you'd like it to or not.

There is a "culture" that follows almost every subset of music out there. Try again.

santana sucks. his music is so unimaginative. just the same shiat over and over. his only claim to fame is being a guitarrist at the same time as jimi hendrix. he's not an innovator, just a technically sound guitarrist.
