AFAIK EULA's are a legal grey area and not necessarily binding. That said, any talk of negligence or Class action are ridiculous. The Chipset has been on the Market less than a month and it is within that time that the problem first began to appear. No company is going to automatically pull a product until they understand what the problem is and to determine that takes time. If this was a software problem, they would have just released a BIOS Update and everybody would be happy. Unfortunately it turned out to be more serious than that.

That said, some unscrupulous Lawyer will probably try to sue anyway.

Now's the perfect time to build an AM3 system.........

"Crickets"

:)

Why not...I've had this X6 system since last May and have found it does everything I need it to including a lot of video encoding. I bet most people would not notice the difference in everyday tasks between an Intel SB system and a Thuban system. SB does OC like crazy though...I can get 4GHz easily out of mine but it won't come near SB for OCability.

Had an X6 system, Returned it for a 760 rig which i replaced with SB. X6 couldn't hold a candle to either.

This is what Asrock customer service sent me:

"SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 31, 2011 – As part of ongoing quality assurance, Intel Corporation has discovered a design issue in a recently released support chip, the Intel® 6 Series (and the Intel® C200 Series Chipset), and has implemented a silicon fix. In some cases, the Serial-ATA (SATA) ports within the chipsets may degrade over time, potentially impacting the performance or functionality of SATA-linked devices such as hard disk drives and DVD-drives. The chipset is utilized in PCs with Intel’s latest Second Generation Intel Core processors. Intel has stopped shipment of the affected support chip from its factories. Intel has corrected the design issue, and has begun manufacturing a new version of the support chip which will resolve the issue. The Sandy Bridge microprocessor is unaffected and no other products are affected by this issue.

The company expects to begin delivering the updated version of the chipset to customers in late February and expects full volume recovery in April. Intel stands behind its products and is committed to product quality. For computer makers and other Intel customers that have bought potentially affected chipsets or systems, Intel will work with its OEM partners to accept the return of the affected chipsets, and plans to support modifications or replacements needed on motherboards or systems. The systems with the affected support chips have only been shipping since January 9th and the company believes that relatively few consumers are impacted by this issue. The only systems sold to an end customer potentially impacted are Second Generation Core i5 and Core i7 quad core based systems. Intel believes that consumers can continue to use their systems with confidence, while working with their computer manufacturer for a permanent solution.

If you believe you may be affected by this issue, please contact your place of purchase, or your Intel Field Sales Representative.

To chat with an Intel Support Agent, click here and then click on Chat.

This applies to:

Intel® 6 Series Chipset
Intel® C200 Series Chipset"

click here just takes you to http://www.intel.com/support/feedback.htm?group=chipset

Guess that means I need to contact superbiiz... kinda wishing I had paid the extra $8 and bought my board from newegg. They are bigger and I trust them more handling a problem like this.

I'm sure the board manufacturers are not happy with Intel right now. Intel's website is referring everyone to where they bought their boards for warranty information and replacement.

wow they sure did shut all the 1155 cpus down.

I am so glad I never buy stuff right when its released.

Provided Newegg offers a free replacement, I am really glad that I ordered my P8H67-M EVO over the weekend. It shipped out from Newegg today. I must have been one of the last customers to get one. At least I will
have a motherboard to build my computer and I can swap it out later.

This is going to cost intel an absolute ton of money. What a disaster for them. Not only that, but it opens things up for AMD to potentially release Bulldozer around when these SB motherboards are shipping in volume.

Wonder how much sales will be effected at stores like mine (ncix). Will have to see what I'm going to do with customers I've already sold SB systems to.

Seems like they have budgeted about a billion dollars for this. Bad indeed but hardly a disaster. At least for a company of their size. AMD won't be able to capitalize on this in time.

At the very least, it's going to give people a glimpse at what Bulldozer is capable of before investing in a Sandy Bridge platform. If Bulldozer is a huge success at Cebit, then I could see a ton of enthusiasts going with AMD instead of Sandy Bridge.

I feel bad for you at NCIX. You guys are a great retailer. I'm sure you're going to have to deal with a lot of pissed off people soon.

this is probably the biggest disaster in cpu history; the entire market has just been COMPLETELY halted: laptops, desktop pcs, system builders...jesus what a mess

Do you remember the Intel floating point CPU fiasco? I'd say that was worse.

Did your supplier (or Intel?) call you and tell you to stop selling boards ?

I would think it would be FAR cheaper for Intel & and its partners, to just recall all the boards, instead of sending them out and then have the end-users deal with the shipping headaches.

Day 1 of the Cougar Point Meltdown:

Come home today, cold booted. Everything ran well...but for how long? Suddenly the scent of burning silicon wafted through the air, hanging like a man on the gallows. Or did it? As I write this, I could not say if that odor was real or imagined. As I started through my side panel window, the molded black plastic of my UD4 stared back at me. Did it know my fear?
