Incorrect. Uppity has multiple dictionary definitions. FIRST is arrogant and pretentious. To which her public character in the past has fit to a T. The other is to describe a person or group of people that are pretending to be further above their class than they really are.

^^^ wow so werepossum knows and about 80% of the other posters know this is a loaded word but some of you want to argue that its ok to say certain words because nobody gets to define a word but you.

And you have already been warned about using the word from a mod!

Except cops. They can just as easily shoot you for disrespect as they can for resisting rape, and claim that you went for their gun.

So please, enlighten us. At what point should someone disobey a cops orders? And you believe the correct answer is "Never", then congratulations, you support a police state.

Off the top of my head there are three situations where one should disobey a cop's order.

1. When he is ordering you to do something that is illegal, immoral, or presents a danger to you, to him, or to someone else. e.g. "get out of the car" when your car is alongside a drop-off.

2. When the likely consequences of obeying the order are worse than the likely consequences of disobeying the order AND the cop is being unreasonable beyond a reasonable doubt. e.g. "Come into this abandoned building with me" when you coming into the abandoned building has no obvious purpose.

3. When you have tried in good faith to comply politely, like any good person should do, for several minutes, AND when the particular order to be disobeyed is an unreasonable order or request. e.g. "Do you mind if I search your vehicle?" "Stop filming me."

It's also very, VERY important how one disobeys a cop's order. A reasonable adult does so calmly and respectfully, giving a brief courteous explanation as to why one will not comply with that order and if one believes it necessary, followed by "I respectfully refuse to answer any more questions until I am apprised of my rights, informed of any charges against me, and have had a chance to meet with my lawyer and go over these charges."

Examples of reasonable orders or requests:
Would you please put out your cigarette? (Something that a nice person will do for anyone in close proximity.)

Would you please step out of the car? (Perfectly normal if not always necessary part of a traffic stop.)

Any problem with that?

She was groggy and disoriented and had told the doctor that called me that she said she had been raped by a cop; therefore I did not think it was right that the investigating officer could interview the doctor without me being there. I did not however see any way she would be better off if I went to jail, so I backed off and went about things a different way. I checked her out of that hospital and took her to a different hospital. Neither time did I lose my temper, although obviously in the second situation things got pretty heated and I said some things to both the cop and the doctor for which I eventually had to apologize. (Which no doubt led to the threat of arrest even though I was dead calm when I said them. Still, they were reasonable given the facts as I knew them at the time.) I have never in my life been as angry with anyone as I was with that cop leading the doctor away to speak to him privately; I saw him as being the one trying to cover up a rape by a cop. I did not stop being a thinking, rational being.

If you would deflate that enormous ego for a moment, you might realize that virtually everybody has opportunities to react as did this young woman. You aren't special. You aren't enlightened. You aren't superior. You are just one more human being among seven billion, and the fact that you have opinions does not make them more than opinions.

I told you, you make me profoundly sad. It has nothing at all to do with my ego. It's painful for me to see a person like you who can't see what is plain to see when it's right in front of your nose. It wasn't the woman who reacted like an idiot; it was the cop. If you weren't such a judgmental, blame the victim, asshole, you would see that the reactions you call rational aren't possible for huge numbers of people. Please reassess who has the giant ego. You could be easily broken.

See, this is the proggie mentality. It's always black and white, someone is completely correct and someone is completely wrong. Real life is virtually never black and white, it's shades of gray. It's ONLY shades of gray, the occasional Chattanooga or Charleston shooting aside. Both acted stupidly. As a result, one killed herself and one painted a giant target on his back.

And if we can't be rational, then no basis for any kind of society is possible, for we cannot all make allowances for each other. We're all just broken toys who would be better off just shooting whomever annoys us since we're just unable to interact rationally.
