What if they don't pay the $50 fine? They are going to put them in jail? You mean they are going to put a roof on their head and give them food? Are they going to give them another fine? Are they going to kick them out of their house?

Dumb rule. It's a tricky situation with the homeless, you can't do much to hurt them financially or otherwise.

Because some of them make tens of thousands of dollars panhandling and begging.

Wow. I didn't know anyone still thought like you.

If they were making tens of thousands of dollars why would they live on the streets? Wouldn't they just go out to panhandle and then go home to their nice apartments?

Some of them do. I know one local lady that is richer than shit and looks more homeless than anyone else on the street. She is bat crazy.

The best way to deal with the homeless is to give them all one way bus tickets to San Francisco. Have you seen the weather and policies out there? They won't be back.

That's the dumbest idea yet.
Are you going to force them to go at gunpoint?

Well heck, didn't you want to institutionalize them for being "mentally ill"? Which method is worse? And who gets to define mentally ill? I spend 10+ hours of a nice spring day in a crummy little cube, and the homeless guys in the park are enjoying a bright sun and light breeze. Who's the crazy one again?

Here is Sacramento, we tell them it's warmer in San Diego and give them bus tickets to get there.

Before, San Francisco has been giving them a bus ticket and shipping them out of the city. Then they would have a press conference saying we're reducing homelessness.

He's right, especially in NYC. I've seen documentaries where guys were making $25K a year doing nothing but panhandling. Yeah, that's not a lot for NYC, but instead of saving the money, using it to buy food or even a cheap rent controlled apartment, they would go to Atlantic City and blow it in the casinos.

Only in America can people believe homeless people are raking in the dough and choose to live that way because they make so much money.:'(

You can't make this shit up. They are handing out $50 tickets to buns now if the sit/lie in certain areas. I guess the homeless can always eat the ticket :)

http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2011/03/15/san-francisco-police-begin-enforcing-sitlie-law/

lol. in Edmonton, Canada the police give out tickets for pan handling. they're pretty expensive too, like $100-200 range. that's a whole lot of people you need to stab in order to pay that ticket.

i always wonder what's up with homeless people in canada. if i were homeless, i would try robbing a bank. being in jail is better than freezing to death.

Brilliant! Instead of raising taxes, get the homeless people to beg the rest of the citizens for cash which will then be turned over to the state. Absolutely brilliant!!

It's true, but the term "homeless" is used loosely. They are jobless and panhandle for money, but do have a place to go.

People need to realize what this was actually intended to prevent.

The legislation was aimed at the "hipsters" not the homeless.
It all came about because many of the "hipsters" were being aggressive and intimidating those who actually lived in the neighborhoods or handing out on people's private porches.

I thought it was aimed at the aggressive bums on Haight Street. Not really sure what "hipsters" you are talking about.

When I lived in SF, the homeless could get $350 a month in cash from city hall as a welfare payment. Youd always see a bunch of drunks in the SFGH ER on the 1st of the month.
