Well heck, didn't you want to institutionalize them for being "mentally ill"? Which method is worse? And who gets to define mentally ill? I spend 10+ hours of a nice spring day in a crummy little cube, and the homeless guys in the park are enjoying a bright sun and light breeze. Who's the crazy one again?

Go smell that homeless man, ask him when he had a decent meal and where he will be staying the next several nights. Then ask him how life is in the winter time or what it is like getting beat up over 5 dollars.

Yeah, I'm sure he is living the life of luxury.

<--- California born and bred!

Let me tell you something, buddy! You are absolutely correct!

I spent a few years in Vallejo area and travelled from the north to the south and Wow just wow. That was in the early 70's and from what I have seen/heard it is 1000 times worse now.

Make them clean up trash and put up a shelter. IMO we shouldn't help people that refuse to help themselves. Yes I realize some are mentally ill, but not all. I've met quite a few bums who are just alcoholic lazy assholes who like to hang out at the beach all day. Those which are truly mentally ill and completely incapable of taking care of themselves, we should give them a hand free of charge. The rest can do some minimal shit to give back to society if they want something in return.

I don't have to understand the choices of others; I only have to accept them.
