Absolutely right. Calling every college flunkee who joined the army a hero is nuts, and yet many do call them that. Every time somebody from the military says anything, many people first preface any statement with a "First, I want to say thanks for serving the country." It's all so disingenuous and just cliche, corny, cheesy and painful to listen to.
