Any tips on great night-life places? I'm 21 now and need some good ideas of places to go. My friends and I went to the Gaslamp the other week, but it seems like mostly older people, like late 20's, go there. Not to mention there was a $15 cover charge for every club. Is PB suited for the the early 20 crowd? I went there for my 21st bday, but haven't been back since.
in p.b. ? p.b. bar and grill is pretty popular, especially on thursday and fridays nights. also, there is this joint on garnett...i dont remember the name, but if you go to 'theos' (good sandwich place), and start heading east from there, its a few shops down on your right hand side. its a pool table/lounge kind of place, where they have 8 nice tables and full stocked bar in the back. also, cass street is a good place to go get some grub, and they have a bar in there also. its pretty neat, because it has windows that open out so you can see the action out on the street. i was eating there this past sunday watching football, drinking a new castle, and eating a very hot but delicious gumbo.

gaslamp isnt all that bad, just got to know the spots. usually my friends and i go to 'on broadway'. the cover is about $20, but its a nice club. one of the nicer one's ive been too. spacious, lots of seating areas, trance is upstairs with a bar, downstairs has 1 hip hop room and one misc. room, both with bars there also. also, i went to moose mcgillicuddy's after last years street scene, was pretty fun but was crowded also. for just a cool lounge expierence, theres 'the w'. pretty neat, they have a beach at the bar with heated sand. but its more of a lounge and more of an older crowd to be honest.

i try and spend a lot of my time up here in north county. carlsbad imo is the place to be. a lot of people say o'side because of margarita rocks, but i wasnt really feelin' it there. crowded, and i dont feel like getting shot/stabbed walking out of a club. martini ranch in encinitas and downtown are overrated also. but carlsbad is nice, because you got neimann's (a great early 20's place), and the rest of the carlsbad crawl (named that because there are a string of bars/lounges where the tradition is to drink enough that you have to crawl to the next spot).

if you need anymore advice/suggestions, feel free to ask in this thread or pm. lately ive been taking it easy lately and just been chilling at local microbrews and such. but that still wont stop me from having a shot and few mixed drinks while sitting around a fire pit. told ya i loved this city.

bah! I live in Chula Vista. There are the nice parts... near Eastlake and Rancho del Rey. I'll agree that the Chula Vista west of the 805 is crap though.

there are some nice parts. but yeah, west of the 805 is when it gets bad. in my area, cop cars/ambulances passed by nightly. no joke. still have some family down there. in fact, ill be down there on x-mas day.

I just left San Diego recently. I lived there for 3 years. I worked for a company known as Midway Home Entertainment. I'm sure most of you have heard of them (makers of Mortal Kombat). I lived in La Jolla half of those 3 years and Mira Mesa the other half. San Diego is a great place to live assuming cost isn't a factor. The perfect weather all year round is the only thing San Diego really has going for it. Aside from the weather, you can find equal if not better everything else other places (ie parts of florida like Ft. Lauderdale). I had a great job but I'm at the point in my life where I want to start buying real estate and I felt the rediculous prices there just wasn't worth it. 400 grand for a crappy little 3 bedroom house way inland in San Diego = No Thanks. Right now I'm temporarily living in New York but I'm moving to Florida in May. I'm buying a nice house right on the water which will cost me between 500-800k. If I were to get something similar in San Diego it would definitely be well over a million.
Hmm, I'm going to have to flame you on that one 🙂 San Diego was bar none my favorite place to live. Perfect weather, fairly decent traffic (only sore zone around where I lived was "the merge", where I-5 and I-805 came together), really nice people, good infrastructure, available high-tech jobs, wonderful public schools, yadda. We lived in Carmel Valley (just east of Del Mar). I'm going to say that the only downside was the expensive housing: $1400 or so for a 950 ft^2 2 bdrm apt!

We've lived in S. Fla. for 4+ years, including about one year in Coral Springs, a suburb of Ft. Lauderdale. Here, traffic is pretty bad, even though we're loaded with 6 lane divided roads, overall the people don't seem nearly as nice, lots of sketchy companies (been scammed a few times), crazy insurance (along with crazy drivers, especially in parts of Broward county) etc. Only plus: cheaper houses, though the real estate market has been booming.

So, in San Diego, most of the nice places to live would be in North County. If you're really rich (millionaire or something), you could buy a house in Rancho Santa Fe. Carmel Valley is a great upper middle class community. If you have kids and want good schools, other fairly nice middle school areas would include some of inland north county (Rancho Penasquitos, Poway, Rancho Bernardo, etc), Solana Beach, Del Mar (the houses here tend to be old), etc. If you want a cheaper (but still decent) place, Mira Mesa, Oceanside, Carlsbad, albeit the schools aren't nearly as great as those around Carmel Valley or Rancho Penasquitos.

If you can afford it, La Jolla would be interesting 🙂 But otherwise, I'd say the overall best place would be Carmel Valley because it's on coastal I-5 corridor (not the inland I-15 corridor), great schools, newer communities, and really nice neighbors.
I'm gonna be just out of college...not too interested in schools, more interested in the beach / jobs / local scene. Lot of good info though.
