Is San Diego a good place to live compared to Boston?
If so, what neigherboods?

Just looking for input from people that live near / in the area and have an opinion.

EDIT: little more info. Looking at applying for jobs out there after school, never been west of the Mississippi. I like Florida, but it's too hot / humid in the summer.

my favorite place was encinitas. if you are buying a place, please let me know what business/career you are in.

There are a lot of good areas in SD: Del Mar, La Jolla, SD proper all near the ocean, areas further inland would be Mira Mesa, Rancho Bernardo, Poway, etc.

I've read about La Jolla, sounds expensive. I'd like to be somewhat close to a beach though...just not too far away from the city.

well i'm not a gold star earner in geography but i believe most anywhere in san diego county is much, much closer to a beach than boston

that said, san diego is real chill, spent 4 years of undergrad in la jolla

/i killed a man!
/yea maybe you should hide or something

/why didn't you guys say something, even the guy who can't THINK says something

I live inland so it gets hotter here than at the beach obviously, triple digits in the summer...but not humid at all. Its more of a dry heat, fire weather. In the winter or whenever really, the local news goes nuts over a couple inches of rain. Doesn't snow here except up in Julian and Big Bear is a 2 hour drive for ski/snowboarding. The traffic is starting to become like LAs traffic though. SD is growing and there are 0 signs of it slowing down. Its crowded, but must of us deal with it for the weather.

Try Oceanside. It's north of Encinitas, and about 40 miles north of San Diego. That's where I live! It's not too expensive and I can run to the beach in about 10min!

There's a reason why every other person who lives in San Diego is not FROM San Diego.

It's beautiful (about 69 deg right now), the women are amazing, everyone's laid back, and it's loaded with outdoorsy stuff to do. Housing prices are the biggest detractor, and they can get ridiculous, but we're renting a 3br/2b house in Clairemont for $1450 - so it's not too bad. I live 5 min from the beach and La Jolla.

edit: Now with map of Clairemont

I've heard nasty things about LA traffic, but I feel like having the weather be the way it is out there would make things like that much easier to deal with. Plus it's sweet that the mountains are only two hours away...I would miss snowboarding if I had to give it up.

much appreciated.
anyone else?

My sister lived there for many years. I haven't been there for 2 or 3 years, but the place is great...especially compared to Boston.

I've been looking for a site that compares suburban areas. Anyone have one? (doesn't have to be just San Diego)

Well Big Bear is 2hrs away, but it sucks. It's good if you need a fix, but sucks otherwise. Mammoth is ~ 6hrs away (driving) and Lake Tahoe is a short flight away, both are definitely worth the trip.

I love SD, my parents live in Carmel Valley, I wanna move back down there once i get a job and such after college.

i live near los angeles and frequently head on down to san diego

its really nice, particularly the area near the ocean

you can say that youre from a pretty big city, and that you're from southern california, yet, not have to live in la and put up with tons of traffic, etc

EDIT: lol, i didnt see the topic summary, so when i saw "San Diego", i though you were talking about AMDs new core names, lol
