Any news reporter that reports "possible plane crash" .. without first checking local air traffic controllers to see if they lost a blip on radar, or if there was a missing plane reported.... deserves to be fired.

yup.

was watching game tonight, dude rushed out of house, over to his house, says "plane crash in san bruno!"

...we pause. eh? goes on an on, all of the updates and news reports later say "explosion."

then you start questioning some horrible journalists in the area. creating...fear.

got a lot of jump to conclusions mats that I can sell in this area.

seriously, I'd make a killing.

anway, crazy fires and an entire block or two blown to bits. Hoping everyone made it out. there was an "all responders release" whatever that means, for the area. so all fire and emt I think was sent in. It became triage center within 20 minutes. :(

While I agree that it's bad journalism to jump to that conclusion, with SFO being located in San Bruno...and this neighborhood being right under the main flight path, it's understandable that some of the people in the neighborhood immediately thought it was a plane crash that caused this...and reported it as such.

oh yeah, totally agree. it's not unusual for small DC-10s or Lear Jets or what the hell ever to crash around here.

I'm actually not going to make a bad joke here, seriously, but such is not uncommon.

poor journalism though...well, that's something else.

Wow. My Twitter completely flooded with stuff. I was in class when this was going on. Most of us in class were more worried about the Saints vs. Vikings game until someone started talking about this. Then my Facebook/Twitter feed started making sense.

My one friend who lives in San Bruno is ok though.

I grew up in San Bruno, but not in that area. My old HS crush lived in that area affect though. My brother still live in SB but down near SB Park. So he's ok thankfully.

giant super-heated fire balls usually don't indicate a plane crash

it's just close to 9/11 so they were hoping for some terrorist hype to milk for a few days

It'll be interesting to see what they finally determine to be the cause of this. I hope it wasn't some poor bastard who went into his backyard and started his BBQ, which in turn ignited the gas leak.

(no, the guy wouldn't have been the cause...just the trigger)

I suspect they're gonna find more bodies as the next few days pass...and most likely, there will be a few that are just never found....but I hope I'm wrong.
