There was talk about a possible plane crash...

Any news reporter that reports "possible plane crash" .. without first checking local air traffic controllers to see if they lost a blip on radar, or if there was a missing plane reported.... deserves to be fired.

IIRC, we have seveal members in that general area.

Now the speculation is a large natural gas distribution line has exploded...of course, it's still just speculation until they hear from PG&E.

PG&E has confirmed that it's a 24 inch gas line...looks like they have the gas shut off...but there's still an entire neighborhood ablaze.

That's like really, really, really big for a gasline. Like, you know, big.

Live about 10 miles away, and about an hour ago the flames were MASSIVE.

Quick update...latest numbers are:

53 homes totally destroyed
120 homes damaged
3 people dead (one station says 1 dead)

MANY people unaccounted for.

One report said that several neighbors have told them that they've been complaining to PG&E for over a week about a strong smell of gas. (that hasn't been confirmed.)

In addition to the densly packed houses, there was a 17-20 mph wind blowing the fire into the houses and into the eucalyptus trees...which burn like they're gasoline soaked.

Edit...different station reports that the gas smell has been a problem for at least a couple of weeks and PG&E has had crews in the neighborhood intermittently trying to find the source.

There are lots of videos on youtube taken by folks in the neighborhood. There was one vid apparently captured by a webcam in a building...and the poster said he'd be posting vid of the initial explosion later.
