Samsung SyncMaster 915N

I'm more amazed at the contrast ratio right now until the LCD gets in the hands of Anand. Can't always believe in the spec's the developers put out.

Yep, and hopefully it will happen quickly.

Prices for the current LCDs should fall even further while people start to buy the newer models.

I don't see any streaking with 16ms monitors already. What they need is to make it have a real true black, then it'll be a contender against CRTs for gaming.

Check out the Samsung Website.
This just appears to be an upgrade of the 910N.
I was looking for a possible upgrade to the 910T.
All I found was the 920T. Has anybody heard of these? I havn't. They appear to be available at online sites.
UNFORTUNATELY, It's 25 ms response time, and it will cost you and arm and a leg to buy one. (HA!) It looks pretty though.

I don't think we'll know the real story behind the quality and capabilities until we get a hands on "real world" review.

Never heard of such a monster. Sounds like a nice idea, though.
Might have to wait another year or two.

Regarding the Samsung 915N, I am sure the screen will provide excellent performance for it's intended market. Since there is no DVI, it obviously isn't top of the line, and will probably be a main stream monitor.

No mention of a DVI connector... is this link right or wrong?

Yeah, Samsung's naming convention usually follows N=Analog / no DVI, T= DVI and analog. I think that site is correct.

Are we ever going to see a 19" with a resolution other than 1280?

Planar makes one. Unforunately I do not have a link, but they are the only ones that I have seen to manufacture a 1600x1200 res 19" monitor.

As for 8ms 700 contrast ratio blah blah... I will not be impressed unless the viewing angle is as good or superior to my 213T. I just got a 712N for secondary monitor, and the viewing angle is terrible compared to my 213T. Sure, the response is fine, but I think these companies are sacrificing viewing angle to satisfy the other advancements.

I was considering holding out to see how the Samsung 915N turned out... however, upon realizing no DVI on this thing, I gave up and took the plunge on a Viewsonic VP1912B WITH DVI. Should get it late this week or early next week... couldn't miss the sale... I got it for less then $550 shipping included at NewEgg.

Too bad... I really like Samsung, but frankly I think there is no excuse not to put a DVI connector on EVERY LCD monitor... there is just no excuses anymore. Lost another sale to Ditech... er Viewsonic that is.

I have the SyncMaster 213T... very nice, if I say so myself. I love the monitor, picture is great, and gaming on it looks awesome.
And it has a max resolution of 1600x1200

I think the samsung 915N is a good deal. Currently Newegg is selling it for $379. The 700:1 Contrast and 8ms refresh have already sold me and I like bezel. I think I could overlook not having the DVI. Overall I think it is a good fast budget monitor. For someone who generally goes for the best bang for the buck, it's a perfect fit. . In a month or so, when I get my tax refund, I'll buy one.

Not to threadjack, but IMO, this 19" LCD (8ms; 700:1 contrast; DVI-D + D-Sub) pwns that Samsung.

We just got it at work, & it's gorgeous 😀

That brighter type screen is just beauitful; you have to see it to appreciate it.

Thanks for the advice, Hopefully when I'm ready to buy, the 915t will be out. As for that Nec lcd; yeah, it beats out the Samsung, but it's a couple hundred bucks more. I really would like to spend below $500 bucks.

My link was Canadian dollars.

I would assume we are getting raped on the price as usual, which would mean it should be below $500 US, though i don't really know what US stores to check to confirm that.
