It seems like a good deal but:

Does Samsung make their own drives or is this a re-badge?

Is this like the Plextor SATA burners that were actually IDE with a SATA converter/bridge attached to the back? I heard those were kinda flaky.

current drives are identified as "TSST" drives, stands for Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology

So you have this specific one and it shows up as TSST? I was also very curious to know if this was a re-badge.
Thanks!

Newegg showing ETA of 1/9/07 but as mentioned previously, price is now $42.99. AT effect indeed!

The big boys (i.e. primary tech companies) don't rebadge. The HP branded HLDS SATA is now widely available but alas not cheap and DVD-RAM has been deleted.

I would certainly take a TSST second though and would not buy a Lite-On design just for the interconnect. Wait until the fruits of the Philips partnership at least (PLDS).

Please send us your email to auto notify you when we have this item back in stock.

No email about it being back in stock. But I have gotten junk emails since I signed up. Bastards!

These are still overpriced IMO. They should be the same as their IDE counterparts.

Still, a good deal on a SATA drive.

Nice, so it was apparently in stock again and newegg didn't email me even though I signed up for auto-notification. Argh!
