i have a SH-D162C ( :shocked: ) and it definately shows up as TSST....i don't think samsung rebadges...they use/make their own

The big boys (i.e. primary tech companies) don't rebadge. The HP branded HLDS SATA is now widely available but alas not cheap and DVD-RAM has been deleted.

I would certainly take a TSST second though and would not buy a Lite-On design just for the interconnect. Wait until the fruits of the Philips partnership at least (PLDS).

The Samdung optical drive is available at reputable etailer eWiz.

It's $40 + $9.12 shipping. Not hot, but if you need something else from eWiz anyway, like a high-quality, quiet and reasonably priced Enhance enp5140 gh ($57.68) or enp5150 gh ($69.01) psu, the shipping becomes less of an issue. $13.88 shipping for the drive and one of the PSUs.
