Hmm these are all actually good ideas. I'll have to try smart remote.

It's still not perfect, if I have a real remote handy that will always beat trying to find buttons on a touchscreen. But you can program macros similar to the Logitech Harmony remotes. So if you have a setup (like I do) where you need to change sources on several devices to switch between TV and a console or something, once you program it then it's a single button press.

It even has a widget so those buttons can be right on your home screen. If I want to watch Netflix I hit that button and my receiver and TV changes sources and I'm good to go.

Samsung removing the battery and SD card option will just make future buyers go to iphone instead. This is a dumb move for samsung IMO. I passed up the S6 for just those reasons and will pass up the Note 5 for them as well. Maintaining my Note 4 is now my priority.

Buyers are already going to the iPhone instead. This is Samsung's attempt to win those buyers back by giving them what they want.

There is NO significant market that wants a Note 5 that's as function-stripped as an iPhone. People that want that already can get (or play the never-ending wait for the next one game) an iPhone 6+.

If Samsung seriously thinks making the Note into a deballed iNote is the way to higher sales.... they might as well give up on the Note series and just make the same boring phones everyone else makes.

The Note is a niche device, yes. But its a successful niche device because its a productivity device more than just another boutique toy.

I just can't laugh hard enough on Samsung, epic fail isn't enough to describe this. They are virtually guaranteed to give up the entire high-end segment on a sliver platter to Apple next quarter onwards.

I wonder if failing to move a million units in the first 3 months will cause a lighting revamp of the body to include an sd and removable battery?

Not going to happen - they'll still sell that number in the first week. But I do think it's going to undersell the Note 4 unless there is some surprise reveal.

Maybe they'll make a Note 5 ultra with SD card and stuff... and charge more for it

G4 is where I'd go if I was in the market. My girlfriend has the G3 and loves it.

Just b/c everything is rumors (even though I think being underwhelmed is way more likely), this rumor is WAY more positive. I'd buy this Note 5.

- 1440p 5.7" screen
- Exynos 7422
- 4GB RAM
- 32/64GB storage
- mSD slot
- 16MP/5MP cameras
- 4100mAh battery
- 169g and 7.6mm thick

A non-removable 4100mAh battery is said to be possible with the 7422 since it'd be much more compact (CPU, GPU, RAM, storage, and modem on one chip) and I'd be totally fine with it being non-removable.

Unfortunately I'm not optimistic this is the Note 5.

Two additional leaks (box and more photos) point toward the Exynos 7422 and a 4100mah battery.

That battery is enough for me to buy the 64gb version.

Dear god, why did they do this to the note when they're making an S6 plus?

I can't defend them anymore. They've gone full Apple. You never go full Apple.

Boo on that battery size.

The quick write on the unlocked screen is kind of useful but surprised how little they're sharing about it so far.

Not even the 128GB option to offset the loss of microSD? Utter failure. I hope sales bite them in the ass so they can go back to what they were doing before.

Note 5 was set to be my first Sammy phone and phablet. The specs are beyond horrible.

I guess I will stick with the Nexus line then.

Surprised on that as well - I wonder if sales of the S6 128GB were very low.

I am disappointed, but not sure where a Nexus would be better outside of price. The Note 5 will still have a better SOC, faster storage, very likely a better camera, at worst an equally good fingerprint scanner, a better display, fast wireless charging, and at least the option to use Samsung pay at magstripe locations.

The price for sure will play a big part. I will pay premium price for the Note but not for a 'bigger' S6. At half the price (probably), I will be quite happy with the new Nexus 5.

I think a good question to ask is, if the next Nexus 6 comes in at the same price point as it did last year--$650 versus the Note 5 (assumed to be) $750, is the Nexus still an automatic buy?

To me, I'd rather get the Note 5 in that case. But if it's a $200 difference, I think it swings towards the Nexus.

I have had every note and upgraded each year since the original. have a note 4 with 128gb sd right now. this will be the first year I won't be upgrading. no SD, smaller battery, same screen, only 64gb max, and a metal back that's prone to fingerprints? no thank you. officially done with Samsung.
