Microsoft sent our company a T-Mobile HTC HD7. Out the box it had a Restoration Error in Zune. I can only get it to boot by a weird sequence using the Windows Phone Support Tool, pulling the battery and USB cable, putting the battery in, powering on then inserting the USB cable.

Get it replaced then.

What did she have before? I didn't have to help either of my parents with their WP7, one on a Quantum and the other on a Focus.

she had a samsung flip phone

Well, there's a learning process going from any dumbphone to smartphone. Hell, it took my mom time to learn how to use her cameraphone (she still hasn't quite mastered it). Hardly a bar to use to criticize.

I just got my HTC Trophy in today, I'm on Verizon. I have to say I'm really impressed with it and have enjoyed using it. I came from a Blackberry Storm which was a horrible phone and I find the responsiveness of the UI to be amazing.

That was the biggest reason I didn't go with any of the droids, I didn't like the laggy, stuttering of the UI with even the fastest of droid phones. But with the WP7 it just feels buttery smooth all the time.

I like the mapping but can't wait for turn by turn, the voice recognition on it is also really good. I've had to ask for directions to some weird places and it understands and picks correctly each time.

The keypad and autocorrect are also well done and I haven't been frustrated at all while using it. The Charge pissed me off in about 10 seconds of texting and let's not get started on the Storm..

It was also the cheapest of the newer phones, I paid $99 versus 299, 249 or 199 for the droids out there. I have really nothing but praise for it at this point. We'll see how it keeps working out as I own it for longer.

A lot of people downplay or ignore this aspect, but its pretty big in the long run. There's still a LOT of dumbphones out there - Microsoft has been chastized for WP7 not being as cutting edge, but it allows them to get them out there at consistently lower price points, combine that with a good user experience (while adoption isn't that high yet, customer satisifaction for WP7 is VERY high), and you've got potential for a bright future.

I've had my Trophy for a week and I absolutely love it. I think the one thing that impressed others the most is the fact that it takes about 10 seconds to take and upload a picture to facebook starting from a locked screen. I really like the size of the phone too. It fits nicely in my hand with the angled sides and rubberized backing. The only thing I'm disappointed with is the half done Zune interface. I love my Zune HD and I thought the Music hub will be almost exactly the same. It borrows heavily from the Zune, but it's almost "Zune-lite." No SmartDJ and the on device music marketplace isn't as well done as the Zune HD. I'm glad to hear it's going to get a lot better when Mango comes out but it is pretty much the only real issue I have and that's because I'm used to the Zune HD.

Oh, and I bit the bullet and bought Turn by Turn. It's a pretty good turn by turn navigation app and it's easily worth the $5.

Yea Mango is huge. Tons of good stuff. And overlooked among that is a drastically more capable SDK for devs, so we should see better apps too.
