This is just borderline insanity, the screen size i mean, a bold step from Samsung, and i bet this is not going to flop, the Galaxy Note will be a success!

I agree that the Galaxy 7.7 need to be $500 or lower or else noone will buy it but the Glaxy note will be closer to a phone than a tablet.
What makes the note appealing is the 1280x800 resolution.
I will gladly carry a larger phone if the specs is worth and by the look of it, its worth it.
Still by then, if manufacturers decide to start releasing 4"/4.3" phones with 1280x720, I will jump on those instead.

not necessarily:
But here’s the thing: “no plans” doesn’t mean “we’re not doing it.” It’s public-relations language for “we haven’t made any official announcements yet.” In fact, I reached out to Samsung and received confirmation that the company hasn’t ruled out a US launch for either device. In other words, it’s still possible that Samsung could launch these devices in the US if it thinks there’s a market for them.

No one will buy the Tab 7.7 if its more than 300-350. Smaller device = smaller price tag in the eyes of the consumer. Cost is a big factor in why sales have been so slow on Android tablets, with the second factor being a lack of killer app.

Oh I want this thing 7.7 inch 1280x800 S-AMOLED Plus panel! Plus this will have phone functionality like the first gen 7" Galaxy Tab.

This is my next tablet.

Galaxy Note is very appealing as well. 5.3 inch 1280x800 S-AMOLED Plus panel with pen writing capability. I don't care for the pen but rest of the specs are awesome.

As long as the screens are not PenTile, I want both devices. Especially the 7.7".

EDIT: No Tegra2. Might be the first Honeycomb device without Tegra2. It has Exynos which makes it more desirable.

with phones with these specs why would anyone get bionic at this point?

If you read what you quoted, you'll note that I said Android tablets.

Android tablets this year are selling faster then iPads did last year, most people seemed to think the iPad sold extremely well last year, in fact I remember numerous threads where people were calling them a huge hit. Since Android tablets are selling faster this year then the iPad sold last year, clearly you are saying the iPad struggled since it sold slower then slowly ;)

Uh, the iPad 1 pretty much outsold all the current Honeycomb Android tablets combined in its first year. iPad 2 widened the gap. Think the only Android tablet that actually moved volume was the nook Color

If the Tab 7.7 is 500 dollars, it'll sit on the shelves with the rest of them. It needs to be ~300. Might be a moot point if its not coming to the US at all.

This will be the most expensive Samsung tablet. The screen alone pretty much guarantees it. Add in 3g radio and you have a premium tablet. If you want mass market cheap tablet, Samsung makes 10" and 8.9". This is Samsung halo tablet intend to showcase their AMOLED tech.

And Apple's supreme patent trollitude continues...

Police removed Galaxy Tab 7.7 from ifa.
Of course, in light of recent events in California, one has to ask: were they real police, or Apple employees again breaking the law by pretending to be police?

And it'll sit unsold on shelves if they price it at 500 dollars. It may be them showing off their large AMOLED tech, doesn't mean people are going to buy it. Face it, the Asus Transformer and Tab 10.1 have pretty solid displays too, and if they cost less than the Tab 7.7, thats where people are going to go. Unless they have an urgent need for a 7in device that the Nook can't satisfy, and a lot of disposable income.

That is some crap. When did Apple employees pretend to be legitimate police?

$500 for a 7.7" tablet is #fail.

I'm still not seeing anything special enough about this to warrant paying more than double for my last 7" Android tablet (that runs 2.2). :colbert:

Sorry but the Transformers screen is garbage compared to the Tab 7.7 and the Tab 10.1 isn't much better. The 7.7 has better contrast, black levels, response time, viewing angles. and pixel density.

I am tempted to buy this solely for the screen whereas I have no desire to own one of the other honeycomb tablets.

. . . You've seen this miraculous screen in person then? I knew we had some screen-whores in MD&G, but dang. :p

Obviously I have not seen this specific screen in person but I have seen other Super Amoled Plus displays. Besides everything I said in that post was a fact, IPS screens cannot display true blacks which ensures they cannot have better black levels or contrast. Likewise they also have inherently inferior response times compared to Amoled or Plasma.

I don't deny that I am a display snob. However the fact is if you want an exceptional display the Tab 7.7 is a clear cut above every other tablet.

Well, I'll wait till I see it with my very own eyes thanks, before proclaiming it the greatest ever over everything else just on what it should be.

They didn't. There was an incorrect news report that said that some apple investigators searched a house for a lost iPhone, showing some kind of badges that made them look like police. Apparently the police had no record of anything.

Then later yesterday, the police said:

Contradicting past statements that no records exist of police involvement in the search for the lost prototype, San Francisco Police Department spokesman Lt. Troy Dangerfield now tells SF Weekly that "three or four" SFPD officers accompanied two Apple security officials in an unusual search of a Bernal Heights man's home.

Galaxy Note looks awesome. Didn't expect to like the stylus concept, but it looks great. Looks like they brought together the best of both worlds.

Do you have any numbers to back this up? I am talking about actual numbers shipped to consumers, not those fake "sold" numbers that companies like Samsung usually point out.

These two posts cover speculation on how many android tablets actually make it ti consumers, and its not pretty:

And then you have things like this:
