I still haven't jumped on this deal myself, but here is the official Samsung response:

Thank you for contacting the Samsung Rebate Fulfillment Center.

These offers are combinable. Please be sure to send the original UPC and serial number barcode with the correct offer when submitting for these rebates.

Thank you,
Joshua,
Samsung Rebate Fulfillment Center

As for the question about the response time, apparently all of the initial review samples sent out used a 25ms PVA technology instead of the 12ms TN. Several reviewers have made a small note in thier review to this affect. In general it seems like they felt it was good for gaming overall, but in some fast paced games like UT2004 they still noticed a bit of ghosting. Also it depends on your video card since they mentioned games that fell into the low frame rates tended to take on a wierd ethereal feel instead of the jerkiness seen on CRT. That one doesn't matter tons, but they just felt that it was a bit disorienting and they preferred CRTs in that regard. Here is a recent review that covers a few 17" LCD, but seems to focus mroe on contract and color reproduction than ghosting: http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/budget_lcd_roundup_0405/.

Hope it helps. I am still on the fench about this display since with the rebates it is a good deal, but overall it seems like the 172x is a bit pricey for is size / performance.

Just got mine: BRILLIANT!

No dead pixels and text looks crisp with DVI. Way gooder than my 173FP with 16ms response time. I can see little to no ghosting with the 172x. I can see a little with my 173FP but that is with an analog input (RGB).

No backlighting problems which my 173FP has. The 172x is much brighter too.

This is the Cadillac of 17 inch LCDs. And for just over $200, I can't see how someone could be on the fench about this. I wanted to buy this model when it was $400+ which was just a couple of months ago.

I think I'm gonna buy it and sell my 17" Dell LCD that I got used. I can get $185 on Craigslist, so it will end up being a nice deal.

As the old saying goes, if you gotta ask, then you can't afford it.

No dead pixles.
And newegg is fast.
Ordered on Sunday came on Wedensday but I was not here so I called Fedex and told them come Friday.
My first order with newegg and very happy.

I bought a 17" Samsung LCD from Frys that came out to $300 after a $50 rebate (this was back last July). The rebate took a little longer than the ad said (roughly twelve weeks) but it arrived fine and Samsung needed no hassling.

last night (before newegg's new site went public), the 172x was there for $220 after rebates
