I still haven't jumped on this deal myself, but here is the official Samsung response:
As for the question about the response time, apparently all of the initial review samples sent out used a 25ms PVA technology instead of the 12ms TN. Several reviewers have made a small note in thier review to this affect. In general it seems like they felt it was good for gaming overall, but in some fast paced games like UT2004 they still noticed a bit of ghosting. Also it depends on your video card since they mentioned games that fell into the low frame rates tended to take on a wierd ethereal feel instead of the jerkiness seen on CRT. That one doesn't matter tons, but they just felt that it was a bit disorienting and they preferred CRTs in that regard. Here is a recent review that covers a few 17" LCD, but seems to focus mroe on contract and color reproduction than ghosting: http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/budget_lcd_roundup_0405/.
Hope it helps. I am still on the fench about this display since with the rebates it is a good deal, but overall it seems like the 172x is a bit pricey for is size / performance.
