I don't get why people are so afraid of gay marriage. I'm a straight Christian Republican male. I don't see how two gay guys or two gay girls getting married affects me at all. No one is going to force me to marry a guy, right? Wait...I take that all back. I'm against gay marriage until the government supplies me with 2 bi girls to marry! YEAH!
Seriously...
Our ancient primate brains can't handle an infinite amount of information. A lot of people like things to be black and white. Binary. That includes rules about what social behaviors are and aren't ok. It's why we tended to form tribes or small groups of close friends: We simply
can't remember which of 500 people are not going to stab us in the back, and which ones can be trusted with confiding any wacky thought you might want to express.
"Wait, now I have to remember that it's ok for like-gendered people to marry, too??"
Then panic sets in at the horrendous new overload of information.
"Dammit, my ancient brain can't handle that! This must be stopped! What's next, people marrying across races?"
Off in the distance, the world's tiniest violin starts playing.
And then he promised to never do that again, as evidenced by the rainbow. A promise to not get involved by destroying all life, however, is not a statement that he doesn't care.
...
And who wouldn't love a deity like that?
"Ok, fine, one genocide is enough for me. Then I
promise I'm done. Love you!"
Oh, you silly rascal! Think nothing of it!
