Fixed it for me. I have more than enough great beer to keep me happy year round without having to wait for something seasonal.

I might try this though, I'm always looking to try something new.

True enough, but Widmer Okto is pretty damn good (the rest of their lineup is pretty meh for me)

I agree there are a lot of great us microbreweries (rogue being my favorite) but I have yet to find many that mass distribute a good/tradition oktoberfest.
I understand the usual dismissal of sam adams by most beer snobs, but in the case of their seasonals I usually have to object.

Sam Adams seasonals have a pretty good rep even here actually.

I'm scared of Oktoberfest beer ever since I got some bad Founder's last year.

It smelled like very old lunch meat.

Southern Tier harvest and Great Lakes oktoberfest top my autumn lists.

I just picked up a 6 pack of the Great Lakes - pretty good stuff. A little different the Bell's, but just as good, if not a little better in some ways.

heh

I'm scared of IPAs ever since I had Columbus Brewery's IPA. Tasted like pine sol. I never drank the rest of the 6pack, and I refuse to let beer go to waste. That is how bad that was.
I was able to finish the 6pack, well, along with a buddy, of Dogfish Head's 60 Minute IPA. It was terrible, but, in retrospect not all that terrible in comparison to the first one mentioned. (the 60 Minute one was the first IPA I tried, followed by Columbus).

Pretty sure I won't try another IPA.

SA's Octoberfest is pretty good. I do like it. Actually, there hasn't been an SA beer that I disliked too much, though I might not prefer them. Boston Lager, for instance, is something I'd prefer not to drink but I can drink them without any trouble.

Favorite SA beers that I've had a pack of to get a good opinion on:
Double Bock (Imperial Series)
Cream Stout
Honey Porter
Winter Lager
Summer Ale
Irish Red (?)

There have been a couple I have wanted to try but just haven't gotten around to, or haven't been able to find in a dedicated pack, rather than variety packs.

Had a Paulaner Oktoberfest beer last night for the first time. That was a damn fine beer. In fact I'm heading out to my local beer boutique to track down a six pack of it.

Märzen / Oktoberfest

Description:
Before refrigeration, it was nearly impossible to brew beer in the summer due to the hot weather and bacterial infections. Brewing ended with the coming of spring, and began again in the fall. Most were brewed in March (Märzen). These brews were kept in cold storage over the spring and summer months, or brewed at a higher gravity, so they?d keep. Märzenbier is full-bodied, rich, toasty, typically dark copper in color with a medium to high alcohol content.

The common Munich Oktoberfest beer served at Wies'n (the location at which Munich celebrates its Oktoberfest) contains roughly 5.0-6.0% alcohol by volume, is dark/copper in color, has a mild hop profile and is typically labeled as a Bavarian Märzenbier in style.

with only 5-6% volume is it possible to remove the alcohol at the end (maybe heat it at some temperature below boiling poit for water, above boiling point of alcohol, and at a level that doesn't denature anything in there?) of the process? I've always heard that these types of beers have lots of flavor, and I'd love ot try it, but it has teh ethanol in it x_x

jk, i dont like beer that much either. The Octoberfest is pretty damn good, even as only an occasional beer drinker I can appreciate its full flavor caramel smoothness.

i blame this thread.

I'm opening one right now. :)

edit:
also, opened with a 5/16" wrench. As I just moved back down here to school and forgot a bottle opener.
When I go to the beer store today, gonna see if they have a cheap one.

True. I've tried it twice and I've decided that I will try it one more time. If I don't like it that third time, I will devote my life to making sure that beer and all knowledge of how to make it is erradicated from the planet.

Or something. :p

Of course this brings out the ATOT beer snobs. If there's a commercial for it or you can get it at a major supermarket it can't be good. Oktoberfest is good but like others said, I like Winter Lager better but I like both.

I'm not beer connoisseur, but I do know a good beer when I taste one. I enjoy drinking regular Sam Adams. I had the Oktoberfest Sam Adams about 2 weeks ago, but I was pretty unimpressed. I bought some other random stuff at the liquor store and it was much better and not much more money (maybe $1 more per 6 pack, if not the same price as the Sam Adams Oktoberfest).

Some people might be snobs, but I enjoy these threads when people point out stuff less mainstream, but available regionally - it gives me stuff to look for. When I look at the beer in the liquor store, I have no idea what's good and bad. At least recommendations here give me a jumping off point.

how about sandwiching the beer between frozen veggies and frozen fruit bags?

Salt not needed. Quickest way is to spin the bottle in a large bowl of very icey water for a minute or two.

You'd really sit there and spin the bottle for that long???
