Just curious...A dealer around here carries all 4 versions of Mustangs. How do they compare to each other in price and performance? What other cosmetic differences?

Never seen a Steeda, but I like Saleen's. I almost bought a 300ZX from a lady that had a totalled Saleen sitting in her driveway. It hurt just to look at.

I think the price (and performance) of the Saleen and Steeda would be higher than the Roush and the SVT.

They are all modded mustangs as you know.

The SVT (special Vehicle Team) is made by Ford. It is also the Cobra model we all know and love.

The Saleen is probably the next best known, but Steeda, Roush and Saleen all take factory Mustangs and modify the interior, body, suspension, and engine. Each of the three is different, but all are WAY faster than stock. You'll have to check them out to see what the visual differences are.

As for mechanical differences - I suggest a few test drives. Have fun!

saleen's are very pricey. the body kit alone makes the GT a $32,000 car, and that's before engine mods.

a kid across the street from me borrowed a s351 from his dad, those are very nice. but way too expensive.

speak for yourself.. not all of us love the mustang. :p

its kinda funny.. spend so much money on a Cobra and you STILL can't beat a $22k stock Z28. :Q

but anyway.. Saleen is just retarded, spend big bucks on damn body kits, when you could spend a few thousand and supercharge it yourself without the $5000 "saleen" windshield banner and $10,000 ground effects. :disgust:

I'd geta stock GT and mod it yourself if you had to have a Mustang.

I'm not planning on buying anything now...that a few years down the line. My SVT Contour has a few miles left in her. :)

My first requirement is handling and then acceleration.

The lower end Saleen (w/o supercharger) retails for $32,000 and does 0-60 in 5.2, 1/4 in 14. I couldn't find any hard stats or prices for the Steeda or Roush. I figure the Cobra is a little under the Saleen's speed.

Personally, I don't care much about the body stylings...

A Cobra may not beat a Z28, but at least it's acceptable looking. The only good looking Camaro is made by Pontiac, and they screw up the interior.

a mustang will always be a mustang. for the price of those "mustangs" i'd much rather get Z06

alright, I'll agree that the Z28 Camaro isn't as sexy as it could be. however the power of it makes up the difference to me. I however really don't like the way mustangs look. too "upgright" with the straight up and down windshield and straight up seats, compact short front end. I like the low slung stealthy sloped look of the Camaro. The Mustang seats also drive me insane. too upright.. I have to lean them way back to feel comfortable, and if you do that you can't see over the dash or out the windows. with the Camaro, the car is built like that so visibilty is fine at a good comfort level.

however, Pontiac doesn't make a Camaro, they make the Firebird/Trans Am, which is the sister car of the Chevy Camaro. and I agree these are much better looking than the Camaro (which is why I have one). however it is widely known that the Firebird interior is much better than the Camaro interior. the instruments and air vents are much cooler, the dash is better material, the seats are much more comfy (many people swap out uncomfy Camaro seats for plush Trans Am leather seats

but in any case.. I wouldn't get one of these pricey special edition cars, you are paying more for the name sticker and not the performance upgrades. you'll do better spending the money on aftermarket parts yourself, not to mention you'll get more satisfaction out of modding your car yourself

I *wanted* a Grad Prix GTP instead of a SVT Contour, but the damned things only come in automatic.

I'm aware that Pontiac doesn't make a Camaro...it was an attempt at sarcsasm.

I'll probably end up with an M3 or a 330i when I do get a new car...

Thats it? How sad. A mustang GT gets 5.4 doesn't it? It also is a hell of a lot cheaper than 32k. I think Valhalla was right - buy the GT and mod it yourself.

SVT is Ford's own team. The only performance boosted Rousch is the Stage III, which will cost you. (A friend owns a Stage II and it cost him $40k - its all body kit, handling, side exhaust and one or two minor upgrades under the hood) If I had the money I'd get the Saleen S351 but like mentioned by a few others, you could get a Mustang GT and mod that sucker.

What about if you don't work on cars?
Would you really buy yourself a new car and then TRY and modify it yourself?
Yea great idea if your a mechanic or such, but what about people that don't do that?
Someone who likes performance cars, but does not jump into a pile of grease to get it.
And Ive see many home mods, that frankly, look and work like trash.
It may be dumb for someone to pay a large price for the performance you can get out of half the money. But the same thing goes computers, yea you can build them yourself better then dell can. But not everyone wants to bust knuckles and swap parts all day.
Personally I don't like the new mustangs that much, just the older 5.0s.

Yeah, but the Mustang isn't the one going the way of the Dodo because of poor sales...buh bye Camaro and Trans-Am/Firebird :D

Sammy - you're missing the point. Paying an extra 10 grand for a body kit and a few insignificant engine mods? That 10 grand could be spent on a supercharger, lightweight heads, etc etc. Why blow the extra money on stuff thats all show and no go? (What 95% of ricers are today)

LOL NSF4!

My dream would still be a Shelby Cobra...*sigh*

Since when does a stock 4.6L Mustang do 0-60 in 5.4?

If you're looking for that kinda handling and and wish to spend that kinda money.. I suggest you look at the Audi S4.

I'll kick the Salleen's a$$ in terms of handling, and almost just as fast.. and heck.. the new version of the S4 that's commign up is gonna be faster! =)

RB is right... the Biggest purpose of buying a Stang if it's for performance is for the aftermarket, there is more aftermarket parts for a Mustang then any other on the market, they are cheap because of this and it doesn't take much to place Porsche in the rearview and start chasin after those Vipers.

One ATi Bolt on with some Exhaust to help you breath a little better and keep things cooler and your on your way to some real power already.

I have posted about this before, but if I was going to get another Mustang (have a 67 coupe now), I would get the 2001 Bullitt Mustang which is an "ode" to the 68 fastback in the movie Bullitt.

What Saleen are you referring too??

This one??

"The S351 goes from 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds and hits a quarter mile speed at more than 122 mph, making it the fastest sports car in America."

Or this one??

The Saleen S7 is capable of over 200 miles per hour. Zero-to-60 time is under four seconds

Or maybe it was this one

The 2001 SR is highlighted by Saleen's 5.8-liter Ford-based engine producing 505 hp and 500 lbs of torque mated to a Saleen six-speed transmission

Maybe it was the one he saw wrapped around a tree on his way home from work...

Oh yeah, and since that Bullitt Mustang is essentially stock under the hood, I'd think about turning it into an S4 killer with a few aftermarket parts.
