I wouldn't call them friends if they disapproved of your salad order.

Seriously, is this the big news on AT?

I was talking about this with a co-worker who just visited Italy. We determined that there are competing 'Push vs. Pull" theories regarding the colon.

Wow, surprisingly tame for a first response. I expected you to tell me that they would murder me violently with salad forks and feast upon my corpse if I did it that way.

So's post was funnier than what you expected, which is probably why he chose it.

Salad is healthy, assuming you don't cover it in fatty dressing. This is why I choose to eat salad first (if there is salad at all). If I only fill up on half of the meal, that's okay because I ate the healthiest part already.

Next you're going to be serving Italian-style pizza! (fails in comparison to good American pizza, not Domino's of course)

Salad isn't really "healthy". It doesn't provide THAT many nutrients. Low calorie and healthy are not the same thing. And what the fuck are you eating that's so disgustingly bad for you?

In my family and when I serve the salad is part of the meal. You can eat it before, during or after...whatever you want.

I generally eat it during. Oh, and for the most part salad has little nutritional value outside of fiber but it depends on the salad of course. Dark leafy greens = good.

Salads are mostly green, leafy vegetables. I'm assuming he's not just eating lettuce. Throw in a little garlic, some tomatoes, some other vegetables, and suddenly you've got a delicious, extra healthy salad. I guess I assumed that everyone makes salad this way, but I can think of some salads that aren't necessarily healthy, you're right.

Typically the main meal is worse than a salad. If I'm eating a salad, I'm either eating a steak or some sort of pasta dish (typically with lots of cheese, true Italian style), both having high fat content. Salad is pretty fucking healthy in comparison, wouldn't you agree?

I'd consider steak to be far healthier then salad. We're designed to eat proteins, carbs, and fats. Salads don't really provide an ample amount of any of those. They do provide fiber, but all that does is help you poop.

You're ignoring a whole bunch of Nutrients from your argument.

Update: I served the salad at the same time as dinner and ate mine after the main course. Two followed suit, one had salad with the meal. Light dinner discussion was had. Success.
