Um...450mhz PPC vs. dual-core 1.6ghz + 1080p-capable 9400m...sounds like a boost to me 😉

Yeah, but a Hackintosh is not a Cube. Or are you planning on stuffing the innards of a Hackintosh into a Cube or something?

I like the new features enough that I have decided to use Safari exclusively for the next few days to see if I like it over Firefox.

Yes, similar to this:

Luckily the ION is much smaller than a Mini-ITX board, so I'll have more room for a PicoPSU and wiring 😀 I LOVE my Cube, but it's pretty much useless for anything other than a file server now...it can't even handle iTunes videos 🙁 If the ION can be Hackintoshed, then it will make a wonderful upgrade to the existing components!

Well a lot of people think the ION will be the basis for the new mini, so it should be very easily hackintoshed.

I'm up in the air about that...I have a hard time seeing Apple downgrading from a mobile C2D CPU to an Atom CPU. My guess is that they'll go the same route as the Macbook - an Intel CPU & 9400m. That is, if they ever release a Mac Mini update 😉

Well the thing is if they had a mini with a C2D and 9400m, that'd probably eat up a lot of iMac sales. The iMac is great in the midrange, mac pro at the top, and the mac mini is supposed to be entry-level and highly portable. ION does that best.

Nah, I don't think so...there's the Macbook Pro models with dedicated graphics, then the Macbooks with integrated graphics. The iMacs are more like the "Pro" laptops, with dedicated graphics, while the Mini could have integrated graphics. Although, if it would lower the cost of the Mini to add an Atom, that'd be cool too...😀

There are reports that ION will support C2D chips also. Cross your fingers Kaido.

just installed it and I'm playing around with it right now. Top Sites imo, is a flashier implementation of Chrome but doesn't seem to sacrifice speed. I like it. As a FF lover, it's going to take a lot for me to switch and Safari 4 may have just done that.

Quick question, Can I move the tabs below the bookmarks bar and keep it present at all times? I'm used to just double clicking on the open tab space to open a new bar and the tabs above the address bar seems disconcerting for me.

You can run the things that kaido linked to move the tab bar.

Hey, did anyone else notice Flash performance is better in Safari 4?

isn't that for Mac only? I d/l'ed it and upon opening the zip I didn't see how I could run it on a PC. I could Google I guess, but I just assumed it was Cocoa and Mac only.

Those are in fact Mac only.

I didn't. Flash is still quite slow on my G4s. Maybe I'll try running a Flash benchmark when I get some time though.

Yea.. me either. Flash still takes up heaps of CPU on some sites.. no speed improvement for me.

There should be no change in speed with Flash Player in Safari 4. Perhaps you upgraded to Flash 10 at a similar time?

I upgraded to Flash 10 quite some time ago. I was just noticing that it wasn't hitting my CPU as hard as usual. I am not saying some sort of magic improvement, just improvement.

Sorry if i'm hijacking this thread but am I the only one who is having problems with the multi-touch pinch zoom in and out with the late 2008 macbooks and safari 4? Safari either doesn't respond to the gesture when I go slowly to try and control the zoom or it becomes too sensitive and zooms way out or in.

Btw, thanx Kaido for the page load and tab fix. other than the zoom issues, Safari 4 seems like a winner.

I finally found out what was causing my Gmail issue. Turns out I had to disable Google Gears, and everything worked fine.

I've just found a strange Safari 4 bug. Randomly my Safari 4 will set itself to auto-reject all cookies. I have to go in and switch it from 'Never accept cookies' to 'Always accept cookies'. It keeps randomly reverting to Never.

I have an odd cookie issue too.

I log in to my gmail and usually just leave myself logged in 24/7 on my home computer. Occasionally, my wife will use this computer to check her email. She logs me out, then logs herself in, then logs herself out. The default gmail account is then hers. I can log in, but I get automatically logged out after about 30 seconds. When the page refreshes, her login name is already put in. I keep getting logged out though.

The only way to fix it is to log myself in, log myself out, delete all gmail cookies, then restart safari.

I've been using Safari since the day it launched (PC version) I really like it, but one thing that annoys me. I can't seem to figure out if you can have it open links you click in a tab not a new window. In the preferences I see the CTRL+click for links in a new tab but I don't think I can train myself to press CTRL every time I click on a link. Is there a work around for this? I end up with 10 windows up all the time it seems, kind of annoying.

I have middle click set to open links in a new background tab in the same window...

I don't see anything in the preferences about middle click, sounds interesting. Although again I'm so use to regular click I don't know if I could re-train myself to click on links a new way lol.
