'Why aren't you in Iraq?
Served my time and left active duty back in 1997, and I don't think that Uncle Sam is that hard up that he needs to go looking at former airborne knuckledraggers who landed on their heads one too many times and have bad knees besides. As far as why not Iraq, let's just say I did my time in Iraq in between Gulf War 1 and 2 and leave it at that.
Sadly, many now think the military is for losers
I wouldn't say it's for losers, but if you are a certified genius with a high degree of education, then I'd say your talents are probably better applied to finding the cure for cancer or whatnot. Somehow I just can't see Einstein having made a superb infantryman. But I will agree that the primary audience for recruiters is the less affluent, and those young people who are suffering the young person angst of a teenager, for them the structure and discipline of the military can really turn things around for them. Needless to say I fit into both categories, and look at me now, I'm a model citizen 😉
