Here's the gist... I live on the 3rd floor of an apt. in the back of the building and we occasionally put our dog on the porch on nice days. She has a house and water outside. The first thing we did was put her upto the bars to make sure she couldn't fall out. She was too fat to fit through the bars, so we thought it would be fine. We've had her outside on nice days for months now, for around 3-5 hours each time and she's fine...
Today I came home and found my dog laying on the front stairs of my apt. building. I thought my GF took her outside and the dog decided to run so my GF went inside and was waiting on the dog to return. Then brownie (the dog) stood up and she wasn't moving one leg, so I made her walk the 3 flights up stairs to make sure she could still walk. But she refused to move her back leg at all.
Come to find out my GF let her out on the porch around 11, and I came home at 1. So she seemed to have lept off our 3rd floor balcony, but we don't know how... She's too short and cannot jump over, but too fat to go through the bars. She then walked around to the front of the building on 3 legg, where she layed there and waited for me.
Well to finish up... The Vet just called and said she had 1 leg out of socket and torn the ligament on the other leg. They set the leg back but she may need surgery
Today has not been a very good day at all
EDIT:
After talking to 2 Vets, that has seen brownie. We have decided that the best thing to do it to put her down
She was looking at $3000 worth of surgery within the next year or so ($1100 of that would have to be done asap) and she would never be the same afterwards. She whould probably be in pain for a long time, and I don't want to see my dog in pain.
Have I made a good decision? What upset me the most, was I could tell by the way one of the Vets was acting he thought I was making a big mistake, and it seemed like he got pissed off at me when I decided I didn't want to put my dog through this.
