We had a database like that posted in Michigan and I determined that nobody in govt makes under 40k.

I'd be greatly surprised if that were true. I work with State employees in California that make less than that.

Well I was talking about Michigan. I also work for the state and when that database appeared in Michigan I was stunned at some of the salaries. IT guys making 75k etc...
I haven't checked Michigan salaries but every state I have looked at, a job comparable to mine makes less. Oregon about $1000 a month and Ohio about $1200 a month. COL in CA is high.

I agree that the state needs to make salary information available as public information, but they should NOT be including the names of the people and how much they earn individually, only by job classification.

the problem by job classification is that for my payroll title, and i'm non represented, there is a WIDE freaking range of salaries that can be paid. that classification info is already readily available - heck i found it when i was applying for this job.

but i'm not in there! i wonder what date they're pulling the info from.

I could only think of one state employee I "know" - my brother-in-laws father (who I have met maybe 5 times in 20 years).

He's in there.

I make more than him 😉

I just transferred to another department 6 weeks ago and they have me listed with the new job.

EDIT: DUDE..THIS IS STUPID... I get to see almost ALL of my coworker's salaries. Why should this be public information? wtf?!
