The AE86 is classier, that's what I'd get between those two.

Sucks that you're having a hard time finding good people, I know it's a big issue here too. Many shops/restaurants/stores shut down for just that reason. I'd totally turn wrenches after hours for a beer

Whats crazy is we have had zero problem finding jobs since so many shops since 2008 closed in our market. Hell the chains like midas and meineke are charging 100 dollars an hour labor and all the import shops locally charge in the 130s.

My buddies have been awesome and have helped when I was about to lose my mind a few times. I also sell granite as my full time job so trying to juggle has been crazy. I origianlly bought the building to store my toys but a buddy who worked a dealership lost his job and asked to be my partner and use my shop for a business we would do together. we launched and did great for a startup. He got overwhelmed by the responsibility and took a job at a dealer. Good times.

Wow. That is quite the background, I had no idea.

Working at a start-up engineering firm I know first-hand how stressful it can be. For about 6 months I had a 1-month job cliff (i.e. if we didn't get more funding I'd be out of a job in a month). Kudos to you for keeping things running!

Still though, get the AE86 :awe:

Very prompt service, accurate, and my car is still running so its a good thing!
I'll be back :)

what the guy did is actually pretty cool and interesting. The S12 hood and some of the custom work this guy did really has a level of love to it. I am really hoping he takes my offer.

I wish I was as good as my guy evan when it comes to fabrication. The last time I welded an exhaust the guys went next door and bought tampons because they said I weld like a girl. Luckily my guy Evan was born with a mig in his hand. When hes done with my DSM manifold ill show you guys some pictures.

Sadly guys my content has been lacking because fate has been a little fickle. I have had issues finding good B mechanics. I have a master tech that is AMAZING and an amazing tinter but we have been crazy slammed trying to keep up with our jobs. I have a couple of customer car builds that I need to finish yesterday and I keep getting people needing maintence. Good problems to have but I have 3 year old triplets at home and a wife that gets PISSED if I miss family dinner.

I almost shut the shop down a few months ago because finding trustworthy people is very hard. Had a guy steal a few months ago and it broke my heart like fredo.....

Were almost done with the sr20 and the 4g63 stroker for my dsm so those should be on the road by spring. Hell the s13 may see the road this weekend.

Ugh, that's rough. Too bad you weren't in AZ - I'd be happy to swing by and lend a hand.

thx man. I wish you could swing by so we could drive each others toys too

Anytime any garage buddies find themselves in the land of the lost-midwest-and want to come by I supply the beer and a place to stay. You supply the good times!

If the world doesnt collapse around me by midsummer I hope to get a Dyno in here so if anyone wanted to say do a few pulls I wouldnt say no :p

I would as well, for the love of all things automotive. From Ontario Canada....

As far as your original topic question. Gotta go with the Nissan, I'm a Nissan fanboi to the grave.

What did you do about this? Does he still have knee-caps?
Interesting background about how you stumbled into the business.

We need to bring back Cash For Clunkers just to get rid of these two pieces of junk. What a waste of two perfectly good RWD sports cars to be riced out like that and then turned into unintentional rat rods.

Any chance you can get a f20? I'd do that into the ae86 before doing the k20...

Oh Manimal I wasn't saying you needed to read, it was a response to the guy who didn't get my "why a KA" post. I didn't realize how tough it was to scrounge up something a little more "factory" and I would have never guessed it would be anything resembling straightforward. I would have expected more 350's or 302's than a KA. I used to run a high comp KA on my 240 about a decade ago (91 cams, 95 block/manifold/head, 89 pistons) and to be honest it was pretty mean on the street (huuuuge midrange punch for a NA 4 pot), but it chewed through head gaskets (basically every other year). Which on that car wasn't that bad, but it certainly got old when the 240 was my DD and running the TT Z just wasn't an option in bad weather. But it just seemed so odd to me since the power delivery/dynamics of a 4AGE and a KA couldn't be further apart. Silky smooth screamer versus out of tune chainsaw.

Get the AE86 and give my friend and I some advice about building a general purpose racecar from the S13 shell he's picking up Tuesday.

If all goes well. I would have to sell a few toys to be able to get it outright. I am in negotiations with my wife about selling the g35. She always drives my expedetion now so Im trying to get her to let go of the g35.

As far as betrayal goes man it was rough. This was a friend and it really hurt on a personal level. Reminds me of when my apartment got burgled when I was 22 and I moved the next week. When I was younger I would have probably made it worse and physically got my satisfaction but I am too old to spend the weekend in prison or worse. In a few years when hes no longer looking over his shoulder he will regret his actions....

I plan on rescuing the ae from its current shape into something that I can call my own. Sure its a little rough but its no C4.....It does have independent suspension so thats all good

If I could trade into one I would do it in a second.

HELLS ya! that would be sick! You would have to take a vacation and come see it if I did!

Ya man I knew where you were coming from. I edited a rather snarky response to australiantroll right before your post so that was directed to the dingoatehisbaby...

I certainly would not have done the swap and would have gone a different direction should the car have been BONE stock which would be my preference. I really liked this one though since the suspension felt AMAZING. Really well setup car that felt balanced and poised. I may spring it a little softer but its solid right now. Could road race that suspension tomorrow need be. The body is rougher than the pictures though. I offered 2k and hes thinking about it. After driving the car I became less interested in a swap right away. I may just boost the KA for a little while since I can put together most of the parts I would need from my parts room.

So officially If I get it I may scrap the honda engine idea. Gonna concentrate on body first. hes considering my offer.

HAD A FUCKING HORRIBLE NIGHT. somebody hit my Z last night. Right fender ruined. Was an accident. A buddy came by late as we finished a VG30DTT rebuild to see us drop it in and have a beer with us. When we were done he went to pull out his dirtymax and he backed into my perfect jdm fender. GDI I feel like I got punched....

I'm really sorry to hear about your Z man, I guess when it rains it pours. While we're on the subject of boosting KA's what do you think about a KA-Ts in general? With my Z essentially a finished project I'm starting to get the itch and I've been kicking around the idea of a mild~ish (like 250rwhp) KA-T but I don't have a personal background in it, nor the garage. Making matters worse, there really isn't a shop around here that does anything that isn't one of the Big 3 (granted I am in Summit county, so it's sort of expected). Oh and what would you expect a build (I'm assuming a stock~ish rebuild, Z32 MAF, fuel pump, some sort of fuel management...megasquirt maybe?...then the usual turbo/manifold/downpipe/SMIC) to run now-a-days?

your friends have a knack for being very unfriendly towards you.

accidents happen. when it comes to the other stuff its sadly par for the course as a businessman. Our construction company we have been very lucky with but inevitably if you employ people someone will someday steal from you. The problem with automotive shops is there are so many little things that guys can abuse from grabbing a little brake fluid to top of your car with to pocketing a cash job when nobody is looking. Automotive sadly is full of poeple with different definitions of what is stealing and what isnt. I had a chat with the matco rep who visits my shop and he was telling me a story of a shop across town where the employees banded together and stole about 150k worth of stuff over a year. This year he told me repo'd more than a dozen boxes. I have cameras everywhere now just as a deterrent.

Cost wise its really a question if you want the power to scale later when your appetite grows. I Actually LOVE KA-Ts with a holset. The extra torque from the KA really helps. For a 250 horse build parts wise if you just went with stock bottom end with head studs and better HG you could do 7 pounds easy on a bunch of different turbos.

T2 manifold and SR turbo elbow with SR downpipe and a T28 off a s14/s15 or GTi-R would mean no fabbing on the DP and a simple bolt on setup. Z32 maf and you could save with a ROM tune to start and do the tuneing when you are complete. one could spend 2500 on parts on a setup like this including wideband and all the other little stuff you end up needing.

btw that setup above is good for 300ish and pulls like a freight train from 2500 on.

damn dude that sucks! At least its not totaled!

Can 350z brakes fit on the Z32s?

you can buy premade brackets that allow you to use those and a bunch of other options from other cars.

CTSV calipers are cheaper to find so guys have started using those on alot of different cars.

Damage could have been worse. Still pisses me off a that a dirtymax sooted my Z and put a scar on her face ><
