I've never really played the STALKER games...awww this looks like such a good deal, but I don't know that I should really be buying any games atm...

Bought. Thanks for the tip, I might not have noticed they were on sale.

I've never played any of the STALKER games, ever. I'm looking forward to it now.

so, for a newb I just tried the 2nd mission in SoC "find the perfected suit" and some electric bolts fried me, how do I get past this and what are the bolts "6" used for?

If you go a bit farther east theres a bridge which the train tracks run over with some goonies below it. I tried fighting them a few times (Love quicksave) to no avail so I ended up sneaking past them (I have the complete pack installed).

Throw them into anomalies to see where the edges are (i.e. where it's safe to walk).

lol I got halfway through the game before finding that I had bolts to throw lol..... I was like WOW this would have helped in sooo many situations...

This is the second sale for both Stalkers in a year as I can remember. CoP is not bad, but there are some bugs and some otherwise bad mission narration.

I bought SoC online for $5 a while back and I just couldn't like it. Even with a huge mod-patch it still sucked. I would advise against it.

Is lurk any good? I read the description, and it seems like it combines the graphics enhancements of complete with the gameplay enhancements of OL.

ok, so I can't do anything with the anomalies other than walking around them?
Correct, although occasionally anomalies will move, which means you can walk on spaces that were dangerous before, or vice versa. Again, the bolts will help there.

atmosfear mod, I would say, is required if you want to drastically improve the weather effects and visuals.

Does the military respawn at the Cordon military base in SoC as they do in Clear Sky?

In CS, I diverted the military and ran upstairs to kill the machine gunner and waited there to pick off the rest of them. Ended up with a nice cache (with a weight mod.) Added the Complete mod to SoC since I liked Complete with CS, but don't care for the Motion Blur effect. May have to use Oblivion Lost instead.

Ugh, I die all the time in SoC, even on novice. I've never had issues with shooters in the past, but this one is driving me nuts. It's like my mouse doesn't move fast enough (logitech g3, highest dps, game mouse sensitivity on high), and the crosshairs only turn red when I'm perfectly on the enemy. Then when I do hit the enemy, I need to hit them like 100 times to kill them, which I figure is because my gun sucks. Glad I only spent $10 on this, because I don't think I'm going to bother wasting time perfecting my skill just to beat easy mode.

So what you are saying is the game is too hard for you?

pretty much. I see there are a lot of "realistic" gun accuracy mods to fix the issue with aiming though, i may try that.

Try and stick with it,I normally try head shots if possible, anyway later on in the game you get some great sniper/assault weapons, also remember you can use cover of buildings etc..for some protection.

Only mod I ever used was the weight limited MOD.

The game is not that hard ,you just have to think it through.

Yeah, I just get frustrated, and when a game isn't fun to me anymore, I usually call it quits.

One instance that pissed me off was when the game asked me to go to another area, only to be one shotted by an enemy with a rifle when it loaded on the other side. Because I was using quick save, which overwrites, I was stuck there dying over and over. That kind of stuff is not fun to me. Like I said before, I've beaten a lot of shooters on hard mode, but this one is really taking me a lot of time to get the aiming down, it's real specific where the crosshairs needs to be. I would have figured on easy mode it would give you a little bit of a margin of error on accuracy. It could just be slow fps on my laptop too, I'm running complete 2009 with max graphics, so I might try lower detail and no mod, maybe it will make things more responsive.

I'm having a hell of a time at the mercenary camp, trying to pick up some information for someone. I need to get my suit repaired, but of course dont have money to do that. Nervermind the fact that I think I gave the 'repair dude' too much vodka. Now he's passed out cold.....lol!
