My first impression of STALKER was that it's good, but I kept finding things that could have been better. The new patch fixed a lot of the bugs that really pissed me off, such as the AI totally screwing up quests and quests getting showing up on the wrong place on the map, etc. I decided to start a new game, but this time around I'm going to see what mods are out there that might make the game better.

I started out with the float32 mod, which does make it look nicer, except for the fact that indoors it is usually way too dark.

After reading the article on STALKER on tweakguides.com, I found some other cool things to improve the graphics that I had no idea about, such as motion blur and some way to emulate AA (that feature doesn't work in the game menus).

for motion blur, you need to put -mblur at the end of the shortcut to the game. You can also add -nointro so you skip the animated logos when you start up the game. To use motion blur in the game, just type r2_mblur (0-1), where 0 is none and 1 is a lot. I have around .3 for now.

There are a lot of other mods out there, so I'm wondering what other people have done to make the game a little bit better. Is there any way to use float32 without it making the night soo dark? Any other console tweaks that are cool?

I just thought I start a thread about it so that people can share their knowledge, since I know that, a lot like Oblivion, this game takes some mods and tweaking for it to be good...

yeah, it's a great site. For some reason the links to the mods on one of those pages is broken, which is annoying. The sites must have been shut down or something.

How do you install the mods to the game? I can't seem to get the mods to work. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

I loved STALKER when it came out - until I tried to actually play it... jeeez, it was sooo buggy I just stopped playing... then came the patch - which scrwed up my savegames... then I restarted but it was still very buggy though now playable but frustrating... came another patch - fucked up my second advancements!

That was the point when I just gave up on STALKER.
Too bad it never been able to grow up to the expectations - they screwed up, they overhyped the game, expectations were simply too high and devs were simply too amateur to be able to manage their project and they totally ran out of time, the publisher finally came down on them very hard and pretty much that was it, the story ended there except they totally buried the game when their screwed-up patches kept fucking up every sasvegames... what a pity, it was a nice game.:(

I agree with T2K. I got to the level with the Freedom faction base and I just could play anymore. The maps actually got worse as you continued into the game. It wasn't so much the game play as it was the horrible map design. I think the segmented walls of the Freedom base were the worst of all.

Its not unusual for single player games to start off with cool levels and then descend into crappy levels. Sometimes they don't even get it together to make last level awesome. Doom 3 was a good example of this...started off pretty cool then there were all those shitty lab levels that got very repetitive. And at first there were some good scares...but then it just became a bunch of predictable monster closets.

I recently bought the game and played through with the 1.0004 patch and no mods the first time. The atmosphere is awesome.I really enjoyed the game until the end, which turned into a quick load quick save fest.I encountered a few bugs, but nothing to destroy the game for me.

I,like you have been looking for mods to try out,but the problem is the STALKER community seems to have died earlier this year. Most of the interesting looking mods never updated to the latest patch and do NOT work with STALKER 1.0004.

Some of the mods I have tried are also super buggy.I tried a stalker alive mod that freed npc's from their territory, but sometimes you would enter a zone and there would be no npc's like they all left for vacation lol.

There are alot of mods here:

I have a weight limit mod and a mod that puts cut music back into the game in the bar area.Just be sure that you have the correct version of the game for the mod that you download or it won't work right or STALKER will crash.

There are a few mods still in development, you can check the official STALKER forums for updates:
