In the original around the end I had around 60 medkits and bandaids and was never in risk of running out. Here I get about 4 or 5 and due to the heavy bleeding I use them up in one firefight. Then I run around frantically looking for a bandaid all the while bleeding and being shot by bandits.

It's buggy alright. Those artifacts are very annoying. It has to do with HDR. In Shadows of Chernobyl, I could only get rid of them by turning off all dynamic lighting. For some reason, they don't show up in Clear Sky, so I'm not complaining. Try new drivers; seems hit and miss.

Bandages, I think, are less abundant this time around. This is made worse by the fact that you actually have to control bleeding now or die. Unfortunately, they no longer heal your health (compensated by the addition of regeneration). Medkits I'd say are fairly abundant. I've never run out and have a huge supply in 2 of my caches. You could try conserving by using food to increase health or just let it be and let ir regen on its own.

So anyways, I've given up on faction wars. My Duty guys have stopped sending out squads while Freedom keeps sending hordes. Before these hordes reclaimed Garbage, the game wasn't recognizing the 'control points' that my Duty guys captured. Think it's bugged. And I hate those invisiible mutants. I was expecting them to show up on my PDA, so I thought I was in the clear. Lo' and behold, I enter a house and one is waiting right behind the doorway. I literally jumped and yelled before pumping 5 shotgun shells into its head.

I try to conserve them, but I'm kind of hard pressed when 4 grenades land with pinpoint accuracy on the barrel behind which I'm covering. Honestly the AI grenade spam is ridiculous, seems like every group of enemies is made up solely of demolitions experts. :/

**SPOILERS**

I had to use the northern entrance to get into the cordon. All the stalkers there who are yellow on the minimap go hostile to me when I get too close to them!

Did I miss a quest that makes them friendly? Do I have to reload a save and go past the machine gunner?

You should get an upgraded suit from a quest in the first area.

As for bugs -the one major annoying bug I've encountered so far is the game sometimes forgets to load in the mobs [animals / npcs]. A quick quit/restart the game usually fixes this problem.

The developer is in serious need of beta testers as they apparently think consumers like their game so much that we will beta test it for them.
I have seen buggy games shipped but this one is beyond reason.
There is no excuse for shipping a game with this many bugs

I would have thought they learned from the first game, but apparently they haven't.

Possibly. If you use the south/machine gun entrance, you get a message from the Stalkers, inviting you to their compound for the feat. There may be a trigger somewhere along that road from the south entrance to the base that trips a script. Did you at least go through the south entrance once? That could also be some trigger. I've heard people using the north entrance successfully.

I think my faction wars are stuck now cause I joined Duty after the Stalkers and they're giving me objectives to capture Stalker (friendly) held points (they won't fail or cancel). The weird thing is **SPOILER** that Stalkers are friendly with Duty once you hit Agroprom Research. Even the story says Duty hired them to do shit. I may try wasting the Stalkers, but I don't feel like having 2 factions kicking my ass. Buggy shit.

I think it's a testament to what they're trying to create with this series that the games are still so fun despite some massive bugs.

That said, yes....there be bugs. But I can overlook them here, just like I did in SoC.

I put my game on hold for now and waiting for next patch, I just hope it does not effect my saves like the previous patch.

Regarding the flashing triangles that appear when it starts raining I am fairly certain that happens as a result of your graphics card, and not the game itself. I know many will disagree, and I won't argue it, but I will share my experience with the original game.

I first played Stalker with a 7800gtx 512, and never saw the flashing triangles. That card quit working on me and I submitted an RMA. The replacement card gave me the flashing triangles almost every time it rained. I tried everything to fix it and finally RMAed that card. I received a 7950gx2 as a replacement, and every time it rained I got the flashing triangles. I tried different drivers, I tried different settings, I tried everything I could think of and finally a tech suggested to me that I turn up the fan on my 7950gx2. I did, without making any other changes, and never saw another flashing triangle. I've formatted C: on this computer twice since then and both times I turned up the fan speed when I set up the computer. I've had no more flashing triangles.

I've upgraded since then, I'm currently running an 8800gt, and I've never gotten the flashing triangles on this card. I did use RivaTuner to up the fan to 75% when I set up my computer, though.

@NoWhereM: Well that's interesting. So am I to assume that all the traingles I saw in SoC were due to my card overheating? That's not good. Hope it didn't damage anything, but nothing's happened since, so whatever. I've been lucky enough to not have this issue in Clear Sky, which points to craptastic coding and optimization by the developers. Moving on...

Finito. Just finished it. Total playtime is about 30 hours including reloads and screw ups. Performance wasn't too bad. In major fights at night with multiple factions, it got a bit slow.

Massive Spoilers Below:

Ok, let's start with the bad. The absolute worst addition they made to this prequel is the ability for enemies to use grenades. I posted earlier about this, and at that time, I was ambivalent. Now, I'm pissed. What the fu*k. Somehow, they always manage to drop in your lap even if you are behind an 8 foot wall. If you're lucky enough that they missed and fell on the otherside of your cover, well see ya; it'll kill you through it anyways. Well over 50% of my deaths and reloads are due to frags. There is nothing worse than attacking a group of 8 bandits and getting 5 drags land in your lap within 10 seconds of your first shot.

Sticking with frags. What the fu*k again. Now frags are useless for you. Much of the time, it takes 2 or 3 to kill a bandit, and that's if they don't miraculously run away. Other times, a dead on hit (thrown and launched) does nothing as a result of some perverted divine intervention. And a final note on grenades, the sound sucks and the high-pitched whine should be changed to a mute/muffle.

On to another topic: faction wars. So much potential destroyed by poor implementation and bugs. Before I joined Duty, I was with the Stalkers and thanks to a bug, clearing out the Bandit base only completed the main faction quest... until 5 Bandit squads respawned within 5 minutes of me leaving the base. In Cordon, Stalkers could never hold on to anything cause mutants would respawn endlessly and Stalkers couldn't kill anything. They have to nerf respawns and make factions wars actually 'winable' to some degree. I won't even go into the bandit respawns at the rear entrance of the Agroprom Research Center. Simple solution is to nerf respawns.

Now for the ok/good. The story wasn't bad. Final cutscene could have been better. Gunplay was excellent. Loved the new implementation of anomalies and artifacts. Upgradable items were awesome and very welcome. Ammo types appeared much more unique. They could have made armor more unique though. Once you bought the SEV suit early on and upgraded it, there was no point to anything else. Didn't see any exoskeletons for use either. I was hoping to score one earlier this time. The best part had to be the urban settings.

Overall, this was pretty good. If there weren't so many bugs and they didn't screw up the new additions (i.e. frags and faction wars), it would be gold. I'll replay it once they put out a new patch.

Man I've only played about 20 minutes so far. I didn't get the first mission, where you get to the outpost then there is a blowout or something right away, I tried to take shelter, the screen turned red and I thought I was tore, then a few seconds later I'm find standing back to where you start in that room? Maybe I need to play after that to understand. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of time and the past week I bought three new games, but I shall get some Clear Sky in this week!

I thought it would run better than it does with a 4870. Maybe I need to tweak my settings, as Mem has a very similar rig and is okay at 1680x1050. I haven't played the original Stalker with my 4870. I used to have a 7800GT so it was all static lighting for me. Does DX10 actually offer any advantages in this game? have a legit copy of Vista but no real reason to use it unless a DX10 game actually warrants it!

Anyway can't wait to play more. As I sort of expected it is very similar to the original, in a way I was hoping some things would've changed. Then again one of the other games I bought was Crysis Warhead which is the same deal. But as a fan of the original games, both are just awesome.

Yeah, that's supposed to happen. That's the introduction to your unusual power to live through blowouts/emissions.

*spoilers*

Agreed, the first faction I tried to join was Freedom, the guy said I did enough but he wouldnt let me in "for a reason that you'll see later" or something like that....so i went on with the game and got to a point where it would be insane to back track all the way for faction wars....so I passed it, ending was OK, not the greatest but not bad.

So I went back to an old save game at Cordon and I joined the stalkers....sure enough, I wipe out the bandits, byt the time i hit Cordon to get the reward the depot was swarming with bandits again, lol.....the stalkers go to every other point you capture but not the main base? why? lol

To the people with the graphics glitches, after installing the beta 177.98 drivers for my gtx280 the problem went away.

Yeah, at least on my 8800gt, Vista DX10 runs better DX9 enhanced in XP with the same settings, and the wet surfaces and volumetric smoke are bonuses.

Also the sun rays or "god rays" are only in the DX10 EHDR mode.

Hmm, I don't see it in the swamps or cordon at any trader.

I either got mine from the Stalker base in Cordon or THE Trader (other Stalker base in Cordon). It's random. Sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not. Stop by often. It might be based on where you are in the main story though. I didn't see it until I was ready/allowed to go to the Garbage.

is that the next best suit after the black merc suit or whtever it is called? I think I got mine at Sidorovich (the trader in cordon).

i'll also comment that the grenades are ridiculous. seems like every battle they throw at least 3 grenades and they appear to be able to throw them 2-3 times as far as i can.

Nah, those work in the DX9 enhanced mode too, everything does but the two options I mentioned. Well those, and triple buffering.
