S. Hawking believes that humanity has less than a thousand years on Earth before a mass extinction

We're probably going to pollute the planet to the point that everything dies except what we can manage to sustain artificially. The population will also be like 10x by then, so there will be more wars etc and hardly enough food/resources to go around. Basically we'll just extinct ourselves due to our own stubbornness and unwillingness to change our ways.

Nuclear war probably. There will be a few humans left even after that event. Then the small number left will die from infection from something we consider treatable today, or something we haven't seen yet.

A gamma ray burst could also cause mass extinction. Not likely to happen since it's so rare it's a once in a few billion year event.

Giant meteoric event could be prevented if people would make science a priority in the future instead of fighting over invisible telepathic beings with questionable communication skills and even more questionable enjoyment in watching humans kneel in front of other humans wearing funny outfits babbling incantations.

The problem with getting people to understand science>religion is not that the religious are incapable of understanding, but that they have such a propensity to reject the points of view of others. This is a product of cognitive biases, in other words flaws in human thinking. You would do well for yourself to learn what those are so that you can mitigate their detrimental effects on your ability to reason.

None of us will be around in 1000 years to find out if his "theory" is true or not. By 3016, we will most likely have settled on an Earth 2 somewhere.

Imagine the price of authentic beef in the future like that because of overpopulation and none of that fake lab grown beef or replicated.

Probably would be more than gold per pound.

Your right! I should do my future generations a favor and start an angus bulk beef farm.

There are so many things that can wipe us out, it's hard to predict. Just one massive even that alters the climate (like a massive volcano) will starve millions instantly. Without agriculture, there is no way we can support the population. Imagine cities with 20 million people and no food.

And disease could wipe us out faster than we can react.

We're already in the middle of a mass extinction so this was a pretty easy prediction to make.
Seriously.

Here's another surprising headline for our dear OP: "Stephen Hawking expresses an opinion, news outlets everywhere scramble to cover it."
