Question Ryzen 5k series for gaming, 1 chiplet or 2?

What benefits are gained with 1 chiplet VS 2 chiplets? Is it lower latency?

There's a huge difference between misunderstanding how the cores inside the CPU are configured and reading a temp sensor and as I've already pointed out, there are multiple outlets that reviewed the 5800x that showed reasonable temps and not the 80 C - 90 C temps being reported elsewhere.

There's NOTHING SPECIAL about the 5800x to make it run hotter so its down to variance or fail of the reviewer.

My guess would be a losing silicon lottery ticket, or bad bios settings.

Definitely not in a 5800x.

You all are missing it. Look at the 5800x label, its a 105w TDP chip, that's the same as a 5900x and 5950x. Thus per core the 5800x will be running a lot harder than ANY OTHER CHIP in the line up. That's the whole FREAKING POINT of getting a 5800x. The 5800x is the maxim of the Ryzen lineup, not hindered by TDP limits like the 5950x/5900x and it has maximized core layout. It's 105w TDP or 140w real world draw is there for only 8 cores to boost. It seems to me that ppl are just being dumb or obtuse and ignoring what's right in front of them.

Good point about heat density. I suppose a 5950X with one CCD fully pegged would show the same thing. But not a natural load.

You can disable a CCD on a 5950x and test this theory, if anyone has access to one.

I have a 5950X, and you can absolutely disable 1 CCD, or even disable the cores of a single CCD.
Looking around for the 5800X reviews I can tell you 5950X has the best chiplets. When running with one CCD my temperatures are nowhere near what I see people on reddit reporting for 5800X or from reviews of 5800X. The max I have ever seen the temperature on my 5950X is 69 degrees, granted I have a 280mm AIO, and it is winter where I live with ambient at 18-20 degrees C (inside the house of course with the heating turned on).
Also 5800X boost around 4.85 GHz. 5950X with 1 CCD always hover around 5.05 GHz at lower temperature.

Thank you, that also correlates with what several other reviewers saw in that their 5800x did not show significantly higher temps compared to their 5900x/5950x. It's very possible that there are motherboard issues where the 5800x is getting way too many volts or that there was a bad assembly batch where the solder or IHS placement was messed up. If I were a 5800x owner having high temp issues, I would absolutely check my voltage and frequencies at full load and if those were at expected levels, then I'd be contacting AMD about getting a replacement 5800x (double checking my cooling mount and such first of course).

I think that settles my purchase decision.. I've been thinking about going all in with this final AM4 cpu purchase and it's looking like the 5950X will be the one.

For now, if I can just figure out why my cores are not boosting beyond 4GHz when gaming that might help me save time until the Crosshair VIII Hero Dark comes out and I can drop this 3800X in it.

EDIT: CB20 MT all cores only up to 4.15GHz,, oof, sigh, PPT 75%, CPU Power ~ 84%, temps 74*C

Picked up a 5800X. Later on down the road I'll pick up a 5950X.
