Will it work smoothly with my 4k tv without having to add a video card. Has anyone tried it?

Yes but my question is really . Will it play 4k video movies and tv without stuttering or other problems?
Without doubt. The Vega 8 accelerates most the popular codecs, VP9, H.264, H265. With the exception being Microsoft's PlayReady DRM AV1. I think only the 6000 series has that. Even without GPU acceleration, the 5600G CPU is easily powerful enough for 4K playback, silky smooth.

A much less powerful embedded APU with Vega 8 can smoothly playback 4K 60Hz. Video below starts at 4K test.

Thanks DAPUNISHER: I also discovered that the AMD motherboard. seemingly, has to have HDMI 2.0 or better to do 4k so I'll be careful as most seem to only have 1.4 although in some cases I think you could convert a display port output to 4k HDMI?

The display out is a great point, and important consideration I failed to take into account. Newegg has the B550M Steel Legend for $115 and ASRock states it has HDMI 2.1 and DP 1.4.

Has anybody tested the B550M Steel Legent HDMI 2.1 output with Ryzen 5600G CPU on 4K content? As far as I know Ryzen 5600G incorporates Vega 7 not Vega 8.

I have both the 5700G and 5600G and both do 4K60 great. Even without full hardware acceleration support of AV1, both are easily able to handle it. Regardless of whether I use HDMI or DP. Modern high thread count CPU/APUs have no trouble with the task, even if the CPU is doing all the work.

Note: I don't have the Steel Legend, but your question is concerning the Vega iGPU capabilites, yes?

Yes I refer to iGPU capabilities of 5000 G series CPUs to play 4K60 content without the need of a separate graphic card.
5700G includes Vega 8, while 5600 includes Vega 7, I am glad to hear that both support 4K60 content.
Please let me know which motherboard have you used in your tests.

Interesting! I would expect that DisplayPort 1.4 or HDMI 2.1 was required, but all these motherbords are just equipped with just DisplayPort 1.2 or HDMI 2.0.
What ports was your TV or monitor equipped with?

They have DP 1.2a because they support Adaptive sync/Freesync. And both DP 1.2A and HDMI 2.0 can do 4K60.
