You guys can spin this shit all you want, what Obama said is there clear as day.

Wow, you are one stupid asshole. First you mistook an onion style article as a real news article, and now you don't even know the basic english language. You're not only a low information voter. You're just low information PERIOD.

Factcheck.org did a great job summarizing the incredible lies, mistruths, and outright deception in his speech.

http://factcheck.org/2012/08/ryans-vp-spin/

It appears Romney and co. have made a calculated decision that they can say whatever they want, regardless of actual fact, and not suffer consequences for it. It's a pretty damning statement about our media that they refuse to call politicians to task on this (on both sides). It's speaks even more to our ill-informed electorate that refuses to educate itself.

I do not like this direction in politics, and neither should anyone on either side of the aisle. We're truly in bad shape as a nation when we have political parties and media refusing to report the facts as thy are.

Sounds like a match up with obama . I do find it hard to believe he can out lie out cheat and be a greater deceiver than obummer . I mean obummer has the crown . Lets go back to 08 and listen to obummer . Wait wait for it . Lets not . None want to listen to that deception again .

Amen.

Matt1970 = Low information. PERIOD

Stop spinning this shit off.

Reguardless of what I say, Obama promised to keep the factory open.

There were still people working there when he took office.

It closed while he was in office.

The world sees you are lying.

It is in black and white.

You and your paid handlers FAIL

Amen.

Matt1970 = Low information. PERIOD

Maybe this will help him.

I would rather vote for someone who is obviously lying, as I know that he is lying, than someone who does all of their lies behind a curtain of illusioned truth. Because, reguardless what you believe in 90%+ of everything a politician says is a lie or half lie. Whether its Romney, Obama, or the many men and women scum in Congress.

Greatest democracy in the world :/

Something is seriously wrong with your political system if that's how you'll decide how to vote.

Pretty much right?

People were like when I was a child "You should vote, its your right your ancestors fought hard for that. So you should always vote, its good to speak a choice"

Well sorry to say. Neither choice is someone I want. And I am not just speaking of the presidential candidates. But the parties themselves. So it is sad to say when this voting day comes around my choice will be not to support either candidate and therefore not vote at all.

The were 6000 people working at that plant. From December 23 until its closure in April there were 57 production workers finishing w truck order and 40-50 people working to decommission the plant. Are you really going to use the clearly misleading statement that the plant was open until April without acknowledging that over 98% of the jobs were gone?

Was that a rhetorical question? Of course he is, that's pretty much the MO of the new republican party.

Also remember the inconvenient facts Matt is trying so desperately to ignore. GM announced they were shutting down production long after Obama's speech, and well before Obama took office. The only scenario in which Mattie's spin is valid is if he assumes Obama had a time machine to change things in the past. (Perhaps Matt believes he does, just like he did with his birth announcement. Who knows?)

Just to stir the pot; who was in control of GM during the beginning of the Obama administration after the the bankruptcy?

Guess this belongs here.

Journalism: If media "fact checkers" are just impartial guardians of the truth, how come they got their own facts wrong about Paul Ryan's speech, and did so in a way that helped President Obama's re-election effort?

Case in point was the rush of "fact check" stories claiming Ryan misled when he talked about a shuttered auto plant in his home state.

Washington Post fact-checker Glenn Kessler posted a piece — "Ryan misleads on GM plant closing in hometown" — saying Ryan "appeared to suggest" that Obama was responsible for the closure of a GM plant in Janesville, Wis.

"That's not true," Kessler said. "The plant was closed in December 2008, before Obama was sworn in."

What's not true are Kessler's "facts." Ryan didn't suggest Obama was responsible for shuttering the plant. Instead, he correctly noted that Obama promised during the campaign that the troubled plant "will be here for another hundred years" if his policies were enacted.

Also, the plant didn't close in December 2008. It was still producing cars until April 2009.

An AP "fact check" also claimed that "the plant halted production in December 2008" even though the AP itself reported in April 2009 that the plant was only then "closing for good."

CNN's John King made the same claim about that plant closure. But when CNN looked more carefully at the evidence, it — to its credit — concluded that what Ryan said was "true."

Well maybe in your infinite wisdom you can tell me what he is saying when he says "And I believe that if our government is there to support you, and give you the assistance you need to re-tool and make this transition, that this plant will be here for another hundred years." because most people would deduce he means he will keep the plant open.

Nobody is going to top 08 for a while to come.

There really isn't a single intelligent Conservative poster on here anymore. I used to find CAD's ramblings amusing and every now and again the guy would have a cogent POV on something that actually caused me to pause and reconsider.

But none of you guys have shown that you are anything but low information voters. In fact Phokus put it best, you are simply low information period. It's sad how our education system has failed you.

Not. As I pointed out in the other thread:
Man, you guys need to learn to start thinking for yourselves and checking your facts instead of eagerly guzzling whatever the RNC propaganda mill wants to shoot down your throats. Obama gave that speech on February 13, 2008. GM announced it was shutting down production on June 3, 2008. Since dates and math and facts and such seem to be a challenge for your preferred "news" sources, let me help you out. February is BEFORE June. Obama had no idea GM would close the plant when he made that speech.

In short, you guys have been played once again.
You're welcome.

HAHAHAHA, oh my god you are so stupid its actually cute. Dont you see what the left is doing here? The fact that his statment may or may not be correct is irrelevant to them, they just want to keep distracting you from the REAL issues as much as they can. Think about it, who fucking cares about somthing that happened 4 years ago and has since been taken care of. It was so close to the bush exit and obama entrance that it literally just doesnt matter. Stop giving a shit about stupid sensationalized things like this and get back to the real issues. Like obamas lack of job creation and the economy, or romneys potential lack of taxes for a decade/his offshore accounts that he has to evade further taxes. We have a potential federal criminal about to get (maybe) voted into the whitehouse, and youre here bitching about a plant that got shut down so close to the two terms that you cant decide who to blame.

oh man...

OK OK I can play that game and split hairs even FURTHER

Obama said that the plant would still "Be HERE" in 100 years.

and it is still there right?

Obama never said it would remain OPEN in 100 years..

fvckin A people.... the implications in Ryan's speech are clear as day.

Don't start attacking the fact checkers....on both sides...but just use some goddam common sense and get off the, "MY TEAM DOESN'T LIE" mentality.

Ryan said what he said to imply that it was Obama's fault....PERIOD. Otherwise, what was the point in saying it? its the english language, we all use it, lets not pretend otherwise by trying to break this down into a legalistic interpretation and definitions of words.

common sense...please!

I think Ryan, intentionally lying/distorting the truth..in a nationally televised speech, is definitely worth talking about.

Both sides lie, fair enough.

you have to ask yourself, "why?"

if Obama's record is so horrible, and the GOP constantly harps to the public that Obama's record is worth talking about in this election cycle, then why do they have to make shit up in order to make Obama look bad?

I thought Obama was doing an excellent job making himself look bad?

Why did Ryan have to distort the truth so much?

why would a conservative like Paul Ryan demand that government step in to save a factory that was failing? Let it go bankrupt like what Romney wanted.

It's not about the action. To the Republicans, It's about a campaign promise that was not fulfilled. A talking point to beat Obama with rather than suggesting their own corrective actions. Nevermind that over the years, both parties' elected officials have broken thousands of such promises. What you want to do on the road and what you learn you are capable of doing once in office are two completely different things. You'd think people would have learned these truths of life long ago.
