my CPU score was only 3964, think that might be holdin me back a little. Can't OC it either cuz of this damn mainboard. Clockgen wont even work, tried every OC program and the comp locks as soon as I change it. oH WELL TIME FOR AN aTHLON 64 :)

curious, OP - what does you card get in 3DMark05?

stock and o/c'd

i just spent $200 :p
[x830xt after mir]
What card is that ?

I think it's a typo for X850XT. I think Apoppin jumped on microcenter's $200 X850XT after mail in rebate deal.

Not too shabby. Especially for a $109 card.

That cpu is probably holding it back some. I used to have a 256mb sapphire x800 in my A64 rig, and I'd get around 4200 on stock, and about 4900 when OC'd. Having 256mb mem also helps...

50FPS average in FEAR (according to its built-in benchmark) at 800x600, no AA, 2x AF ... on an Athlon XP 2100+ and Radeon 9700 Pro. I let it auto-configure the settings which left most on medium but a few were set to high (regular shadows were on, not softshadows). Completed the game with NO performance issues at all - never lagged, never chopped ... just ran smooth. I tried 2xAA and it dropped to about 30FPS ... 1024x768 also dropped to ~30FPS.

I don't know about the OP's claims but FEAR and other modern games ARE playable on older hardware. I think people forget that most sites crank up the settings to the maximum for benchmarking purposes.

It auto set me (9800np, axp3000+, 1gb) to mostly minimal with maybe 1 or 2 medium @ 800x600 with no aa or af. No way most were medium for you. Shens.

I like FEAR. I'm Almost done with it. I have everything set to maximum. Everything. 1280x1024 4x/16x AA/AF and my SLI feels sluggish every now and then. The test settings demo said my minimum FPS was 40. This is definately the most demanding game out there.

Seriously.

OP: Please explain how you got FEAR into 1280x1024 mode. (Yes, i know how -_-)

THere is no way, even without shadows that an X800 is managing that. Absolutely no way.

Why would I post lies when I have nothing to gain and time to lose? Seriously.

There "is way" most settings were on medium. I know because I played it that way and I was surprised this system could handle it, especially considering the huge hype over minimum requirements for the game. I actually didn't expect to play FEAR at all.

FWIW, I was able to play BF2 with EVERYTHING on medium without a problem. I would guess between 40-50FPS with no slow-downs that I noticed, but I never checked FPS because it ran "good enough" and I didn't want to jinx it. I tried setting everything to high a few times ... it wasn't terrible but not as smooth as I'd like. IIRC, everything on high and some texture settings to medium, it was very playable.

Call BS if you want to, these are the facts.

thank-you!

yep, that was a typo

i got my x850xt today and 'stock' with the "old" 5.11 drivers it does over 6100 . . . over twice my old 9800xt [RIP] . . .

i am relatively satisfied with my $200 card . . . but it is not that great a leap over the 9800xt . . . i would have been more than willing to skip another generation IF the x1900xt came in AGP.

u gotta remeber the amazing thing about this card, with the stock cooler i can OC the core by 60mhz and the RAM by 300
At stock it is set to 390/350
OC and stable its at 450/450
Very impressive considering A. its the stock cooler, and B. The DDR ONE RAM is rated for only 700mhz.
I'm gettin my ATI Silencer 4 Rev 1 in early next week so i should be able to go much higher than that, might be able to push it to x850 speeds. Only real problem with the card is the pipes arnt unlockable. The 12 pixel pipes it comes with are all u get.
