RX580 - good for the next how many years?

So i just got a Visiontek RX580 8gb to replace my 2013 AMD 7950.

Can't find any clock specs on this guy, but i'm just going to assume its your typical 'regular' RX580 8gb.

I'm learning that this card is 3 years old already, how relevant do you think this video card will be for the upcoming years? Will it be good for upcoming CS games even at 4k resolution?

As you said, it’s three years old. It isn’t relevant now, let alone years from now.

The RX 580 is still very relevant in gaming, however it never was a 4K gaming card. It is a great 1080P gaming card, and can dabble in some games (depending on game settings) at 1440P.

4K gaming is demanding (and not cheap).

You'll get those frame rates only if you have a CPU that is up for it in CS:GO. It is important to have a CPU with very good single-core performance in order to get high frame rates in CS:GO.

Yea, but we're talking about CS at only 100+ fps and not 240+.

Rx580 should be fine for most 1080p games until the ps5/next gen consoles come out in the next few years. The rx580 is between ps4 pro/xbox one x performance. Once next gen games start coming out, the rx580 probably won't keep up.

Source engine games have been relatively light on the gpu, so unless halflife 3 ever comes out on a new engine the rx580 should be fine for the foreseeable future.

I'm still running a stock i7 860, hah... will probably need to upgrade soon, since next gen consoles are rumored to run some kind of 8 core ryzen.

Its a great card, its still very good for 1080p gaming at max settings. You can pretty much max most games even today at 1080p. There are some really demanding games like AC:Origins, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Metro Exodus that you'll need to lower few settings down a notch to maintain 60+fps, but overall its still a great card and will continue to be so in the foreseeable future. I think until mid 2020 when the next gen consoles launch, that is when we are likely going to have an uptick in graphic quality.

Amazing!!! My CPU is also around 6 years old I have it ever so slightly OC'd but not sure if that matters. When i play cs i have windows task manager open on a 2nd monitor and it shows 100% GPU usage vs 50-75% CPU usage when playing CSGO. Is that an indicator of anything?

Check detailed core performance. I'm not sure about CS:GO but it's possible it's maxing out 1 core and utilizing the second core for second-level operations at 25-50% usage. In that case faster single-core performance may help out. That being said, how are you doing from an FPS standpoint? Hitting your goal?

$130 for an RX 580 8GB is a pretty good deal. Should be a good upgrade for you in the mean time, then think about the rest of the computer later. Upgrades to consider in the future would be adding another 8GB of RAM and dropping in a 4790k. That is if you don't do a full platform upgrade.

To answer your question,.about 15 month's , the new next gen Xbox will release next September.
If you only play CSGo, your good for quite a while.

The 480 is 3 years old, technically the 580 could only be 2 years old at this point...but regardless, it's still a good card for e-sports games. Sure when the new consoles come out in 2020 it will be total trash by comparison but at least you will get a year of good gaming out of it for a little over $100.

Was a rebades RX 570 from China w/ a bios that'll show RX 580. Ugh so mad about that. It never shipped out from Dell cuz it went out of stock. Requested cancellation.

Yeah, a lot of deals on SlickDeals are just plain BOGUS. I got burned on a supposed new Lenovo Ryzen 2200G 8GB RAM desktop, I and everyone else that I am aware of in that SD thread ended up getting a PC with a prior-Gen Bristol Ridge APU, and only 4GB RAM.

Picked up the RX580 GTS (1405 mhz) today and plugged it in and played 1.5 hrs of CS. ave about 180-200 fps w/ dips down to 150. Any way to get the FPS more stable so it doesn't seem laggy?

Also, 75hz showed up on my Windows advanced display settings once i plugged in the new card. i guess my 7950 couldn't do anything over 60hz.

I have freesync enabled my monitor (OSD setting) I have Freesync enabled on my Radeon settings, and windows set to 75hz. What else do i need to do to optimize my gaming settings? On CSGO, should i set VSYNC to on? How about on Radeon settings?

Really could use a new monitor with a high refresh rate. You'll want vsync off with an uncapped fps for lowest lag.

Also, i'm messing w/ Global Wattman Radeon settings to overclock. What is the highest temps that the RX580 can take? I'm currently getting to 78C... can it handle 2 hrs @ 85C?
