that's not true at all. I'm tired of all the lagging/stuttering issues with Anandtech website. I think that my fps dropped into the single digits at 3am this morning while I was browsing the DC forums. I'm hopeful that a Q9450 and rv670 will get me at least up to 20fps min... :)

I thought that WIC was worse than oblivion. it must not be that bad if you can play it on med settings with an x1800xl aiw.

Its Cpu hungry, ive got in my other pc a 7600GT with an Opteron 146 running at 2.7Ghz and it runs like shit at 1680x medium, BUT the 7600GT played it at those settings perfectly when it was in with my Q6600.

But people are playing that game at 8xaa and 16x AF with an 8800GTS everything maxed out and it looks georgous and runs well.

with all the 8800gt info going around, it's going to be nice to have something to compare it with.

From 90nm to 55nm is pretty impressive for AMD. They had big trouble with their 65nm processor, the performance was lower than the 90nm based ones. I hope its allright now.

But like I read on other posts, the warranty offered by EVGA including the step-up program is very attractive compared to the sapphire crap..

does XFX offer a step-up program or is it just EVGA?

true, i wish there was a company on the ATI side that offered a lifetime warranty + allowed aftermarket cooling. the only company i remember that offered lifetime was Powercolor on the X1900 series but i doubt they'll do it again.

just eVGA, XFX offers double lifetime instead.

weird though. 8800s are 90nm and hd2900 are 80nm. Thats one other proof of the bad design of r600, even with a smaller process it doesnt consume less power.

I think that ati (since it was their card from way before amd took over) made r600 as an answer to a question that nobody was ready to ask yet. just like x19x0 series card, 2900xt/pro will probably age much better than 8800, but for now they just have too much power in the wrong places.

AMD is not manufacturing the gpu. It's done at other foundries like TSMC and UMC.

How is Sapphire crap? I've owned a bunch of cards from Sapphire, Connect3d, Powercolor, and never had a defective card or any reason to RMA, unlike the people who bought a bunch of defective 7900gt's from evga and the like when they first came out. Warranty is of no concern to me, and I'm not interested in step up programs which overcharge you for the card initially and then make you wait a month to get a new card if you use the step up. I'm primarily interested in which card offers the best performance for the money.

VisionTek does for their AMD cards ... they recently upgraded their warranty from one year to lifetime. My 2900xt box actually says 1 year and the web site says lifetime. i doubt they allow the cooler change, however. They actually have a very nice cooler for the 2900xt.

For me lifetime is maybe 2 years max. If a card dies after 2 years, very little reason to spend money on packing, besides postage. Anyways these cards look goood, lets hope they live up to the hype.

sapphire always had this low budget image, for me. cards from different brands are all performing the same yes but the sapphire is always the cheapest so I guess they have to cut somewhere. (2 year warranty, long rma process, etc)

Hm, if it is true that ATi/AMD have fixed the deficiencies of the R600, increased the clock, etc. I don't see why this card won't at least match the GTX, if not exceed it.

Either way, it will be best to hold off on the GT and R670 until there are benchmarks out comparing the two.

yeah, don't be like that guy who just bought the 8800gts 320 fatal1ty for $315 and now is trying to find a way to return it. Sit tight for a few weeks and the true performance (AND oc potential) of all the new cards and all their iterations will become clear.

Hmm, looking good.

Just not looking good for me.

These new "mid-range" cards look like they'll be a fantastic value...

You can't really compare the two cards in that way though since they are different designs and the transistor count is different.

Compare the 2900 to the 38x0, then you'll see that a smaller process DOES mean lower power consumption.
