Well, not exactly the statue of liberty, but its cool nevertheless.

The Motherland Statue

the symbolic statue of the Motherland., a mother standing guard over her country, her raised sword threatening to destroy any who dare to invade her land, and calling on her sons to follow her example

I never knew it existed, looks quite cool though.

Wow that thing is huge! But I wouldn't call it a statue of 'liberty'. I'd say, quite the opposite thing.

It is, in a way. The liberty from foreign invaders, in a free speech sort of way.

Considering WW2 was won at Stalingrad, and something like 1 million people died there, I think they deserve a nice statue.

Anyone else think this is kind of bizzare?

The statue not fixed to the plinth by anything but its own weight.

Why would you not attach the statue to the foundation?? What happens when an earthquake rolls through?

Maybe this statue is not what you think it is. It could be an alien spaceship, ready to take off at a moments notice. That would explain it.

Yup, along with Red Square and the rest of it. Not likely I'll ever go there though.

Don't forget St Petersburg (Hermitage, etc) and the towns of the Golden Ring (Rostov, Yaroslavl, Uglich, Suzdal etc)
Golden Ring is what Russia is all about. I think if you want to see Stalingrad (Volgograd), and the golden Ring, the best way to go is to take a river cruise on the Volga.

Hmm true. And the Winter Palace, the throne room is made of gold! :Q
It's kinda sad to know that there is so much beautiful stuff in Russia, but it's so inaccessible.

winter palace = hermitage
Unless I am really wrong. I've been to Hermitage. There is so much stuff to see there. Gotta be one of the best museums in the world if not the best. There is tonnes of other stuff to see in St Petersburg. Also a lot to see in Moscow.

Volgograd isn't in CA :D It's closer to Caucases, but in a seismicly stable area.

yeah, hermitage is winter palace ...

I'm originally from Saint Petersburg, and I love that city ... it's much more beautiful then Moscow ... as they call Moscow in Russia - big township ...

there is way too much to see in Saint Petersburg :) .... too bad I was fairly young when I left, and didn't take much advantage of that :(...

as soon as I get citizenship , I'm going to visit it :)

"The sword, made from stainless stell, is 29 metres long and weighs 14 tons."

Thats pretty cool. Wonder what kind of damage that thing would do in NWN ;)
