The US (collectively) might be too much of a pussy to put rigs up there but the Russians aren't.
They don't give a crap about the caribou and their environmental record is abominable compared to US based operations but hey! At least we'll feel good about ourselves for not touching a pristine frozen wasteland. Never mind that the same corps who would have done it with care under US law in ANWR and other places can now do it with fuck-all abondon under Russian law. :thumbsup: :|

Its quite obvious Santa's oil soaked red suit will make it far easier for him to get down chimneys. But he is really going to mess of the path from the fireplace to the tree.
And as second hand polluter---the EPA is just going to have to outlaw Santa.S
Sad but true Virginia, we are going to have to ban Santa as environmentally incorrect.

The article in my newpaper today contradicts this.
Says Russia is going back to TRY to find proof. Denmark/Greenland is after the same claim.
I don't have the article with me, but it mentioned some underwater mountain range (or whatever the heck it is). Russia is trying to get proof that range extends to them (thus possibly enabling the claim). Denmark/Greenland belives that same range is their proof.
Also of interest was that the problem they are encountering is much thicker ice than expected (GW ftw!), jepordizing the entire expedition.
