So when Russia circled Guam that wasn't a provocation of war?

Have you heard of Francis gary Powers?

Circling isn't the same as being in the middle of airspace and spying.

soviet and american planes teased each others borders for decades. oldnewsbro.

Where was Powers and his U2? In Soviet airspace.

The bombers that visited Guam were in international airspace.

As to the question as why the visit; we just stationed a couple of strategic bombers in that area.
Was that related to China or just because?
Russia felt the need to demonstrate that they could also project force that far away.

The other thing to consider is training. You can't field an airforce without training and maintenance, so the huge effort and cost to fly out there is quite insignificant. They have to go somewhere, and this was as good a mission as any.
Does that mean it was not posturing? Oh heck no, it was certainly a show of force and capability.

A better title would have been: "Russian Bears Circle Guam". :D

That's funny as fuck that you guys are arguing. It's like your neighbor just bought a Ferrari, and you went and bought a 10 years old Mercury Marquis and try to "show force" that you too, can carry stuff on four wheels. Stop it, it's becoming retarded.

The Russian Bears would have been shot down by sling shots, if this was real. God some of you are retarded.

Fortunately for us, the US forces treat every threat as a real one. If that were for real, the would have launched cruise missiles 1500 miles out and turned away, not hung around for a photo op.
