Yes, a very good article.
Many Russian generals truly believe that a bombing campaign that leaves some buildings still standing is ineffective. Precision-guided munitions are widely considered to be costly pranks -- not real weapons. In Chechnya, we tried to use some of these gadgets, but they did not work, as most Russian officers and men have not been trained in how to use the limited number of modern weapons our military inherited from the Soviet armed forces.
If they would lay off the Vodka, maybe they could develop weapons with greater accuracy. ;)
How the hell do you expect them to stay warm/alive without Vodka? ;)

But there is a predictable benefactor: The USA. I'll bet my month's salary that if NK begins any aggression today, the USA would respond. We are the only powerful good guys left who is willing to step in (as long as there is at least a little bit of self-benefit involved). In the case of Japan, the USA has lots at stake. (I doubt that President Bush would intervene in, say, Zimbabwe, where President Mugabe is committing atrocitities left and right.)

So I'll add the following to my opinion "Only if said nation/region has something that benefits the USA."

Still, the interests of the United States and Japan are different, even if closely aligned. The U.S. may be unwilling to act against North Korea because of the interests of South Korea, but the Japanese may want to make a statement through offensive military action but currently are unable to do so, even something small. As a result, the Japanese are talking about changing their pacifist military stance. Further, when something like the current war is ongoing, the coverage of the US military over Japan is not as good as it is usually simply because there isn't the huge depth of forces available. That worries the Japanese.
