Russian jet buzzed US Destroyer for the eleventy billion times...

What if... now hear me out, what if he doesn't lock on the ship, but just does a routine buzz, then bbrrrarrrararrrarrrarrrrttttttarrtttttttt with his internal 30mm cannon? Or, as someone put it, kamikazi into the ship?

Then the director of the movie would ask that the lead actor man a 50 cal and magically shoot down the plane.
He would then have his token black actor make a joke or something.
but then it turns out the pilot of the enemy plane was an alien and the plane was a decoy.

Thats when the alien mothership appears from beneath the waves...

I saw that yesterday and almost put it up, the things were not carrying any ordinance and just trying to have an old "Top Gun" moment it looked.

If they were being serious, they would have been waxed before they got near there.

They did fly pretty stupidly close.

Turn a Phalanx on and they would have been floating debris.

The US Navy knew they were just trolling them 😛

They performed a pretty calculated strafing run on the ship.

Had it been for real, the ship could not have reacted until after the first pass.

Watching this on the news now. If I were President I'd order all these close encounters shot down.

What are you going to do about it? Launch nukes? Then we will launch nukes FUCK YOU! :colbert: This is a provocative act. I wouldn't put up with it. I like how this is happening more since Olosser is in office.

Now let the usual assholes post their dismay.

Good thing you aren't the President. No President would order that kind of action based on an action like that. There are many other ways a President has to respond in a more intelligent manner than a shoot down. This kind of crap happened all the time during the cold war on both sides. Every carrier in the Med was trailed by a Russian "fishing trawler" during the cold war and they regularly used to to things like try to get in the way when the carrier would turn into the wind to launch/recover planes and we didn't sink the trawlers.

Also, we've moved tanks and other assets into the Baltic states and are generally being a pain in the ass with sanctions. Of course that's the direct result of other aggressive action by the Russians, but I can understand why from a egomaniac's point of view you might think you need to puff out your chest a bit.

Well, an Su-24 anyway... :\

I guess he's lucky there' weren't any Turkish F-16s in the area.

But still way better than the dolphin carcass choked in plastic bags that floated by earlier in the month. 🙂

I get a giggle out of the goobers in this thread that are second guessing the Captain of a US Navy ship and the President. I'll tell you what I would do if I had ever done anything with my life and wasn't permanently stuck to this chair, I would shoot those motherfuckers down! Fuck yeah I would. 😵

Obama gets crippling sanctions passed by the EU that, along with low oil prices, have destroyed the Russian economy.

Russia flies by a US destroyer with a 40 year old airplane that can barely maneuver (thus making it extremely easy to shoot down with just about any AA missile).

Idiots say Obama is weak 🙄

This is why no one puts you in charge of anything.

Good thing you're not president, because clearly, you're an idiot.

Put on your wizard robe and hat and bring along a straitjacket. Donald Trump needs a running mate.

These buzz actions are pretty asinine. Any plane that launches a missile, means war. And nobody wants war. So this macho buzz bullshit is pointless.

Have you read the thread at all? Couple of these internet presidential material war wizards have so much sand in their vag over a headline they read that their crotch crabs are thinking of building a sand castle.

Take this publicity stunt and Putin's statements that we are behind the Panama leak and you can see this is about Russian elections (as rigged as they are).

Putin is on a PR campaign.

They'll probably use some special effects to show Putin flying the SU-24...mocking the Americans as he flies by.
Followed by the scroll
'Putin...making Russia great again"

Do you really think a 40+ year old attack aircraft is going to do anything too a modern guided missile destroyer? Thankfully, some of you have no power and you never will. Try taking a break from the mass media for a bit since you clearly can't discern reality from sensationalism at this point.

You may want to look at inventories around the world.
There are lots of "40 year old aircraft" out there.

When it first flew isn't as relevant as the upgrades to the platform along the way.

the USAF's top dog attack aircraft are the F-16, and F-15.
The F-15 is a "45+ year" old platform.
The F-16 is 40+ year old platform.

That being said, it doesn't matter how old the SU-24 is.
A SU-24 isn't the thing to worry about
This is- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kh-31
All the SU-24 does is get it within range and provide it with targeting information.

Not a topic of personal expertise, but it seems to me that considering the ship is as slow as hell and mahoosive (technical term), and the aircraft is fast, extremely agile and can carry a payload that no-one wants aimed at them, I'd put my money on the aircraft any day of the week, especially since the ship is used to spotting and ignoring the aircraft on a regular basis.

It might not even be a question or the aircraft destroying the ship, there could be a number of objectives in mind, it doesn't change the fact that compared to the aircraft, the ship is a sitting duck.

However, considering that the aircraft was apparently not carrying any payload, Russia sent it either to troll the Americans or to do recon for some particular purpose.

They can carry modern KH 31s, which are no joke.

A strafing run would be pretty silly though.

Plane could have *easily* misjudged approached, or had a mechanical breakdown and plowed right into the ship, and depending on which part of the ship it hit, it could have sunk it.
It could have been a rouge pilot as well, AFAIK, the pilot didn't respond at all.
The pilot could have been anyone, North Korean, Iranian, you name it.
That plane carries a GSh-6-23 cannon as well, and it can deplete its ammo magazine in under 2 secs.
Even if the shutter was closed, it doesn't take more than 1 sec to open it, strafe the deck/ship and peel off (or just slam into the ship).

There is a buffer zone for military ships for a reason.

Then there is the helicopter that was hovering...

The Russians were supplying target practice for free, and we didn't take them up on their gracious gift...

Let's see who gave the stand down order this time...There are captains who have lost their ship for less.

We play a similar game with Russia and Chinese ships though probably not this close.

If we were to shoot down the Russian planes with the Phalanx system saying, hey we were just testing them and you guys came along at the wrong time the Russian could return the favor by launching long range anti-ship cruise missiles saying, hey, we were just testing them...

That game isn't in our favor when it's played in there backyard...

If it had been for real the ship would have seen the targeting radar from the AC and could have engaged it. But, given the rules of engagement the first US ship would likely be toast before the new rules are given. But, if the Russians were to go down that road we'd be looking at WWIII and the end of human existence.

No, if I were President I'd call Putin and tell him if these provocations continue, whether that be a Russian bear or a SU some thing or other, then I will instruct the military to give one warning and one warning only that if you proceed you WILL be shot down.

Make no mistake about it. This was not within any naval standard what the Ruskies did here. This is getting out of hand and I'd take up a Reagan carry a big fucking stick stance.

End of story over and out.
