Russian bombers resume Cold War sorties

The US does it all the time, I just do not understand why it won't let others do it.
 
It's understandable to both do it, and for other countries to go meet them. It sounds like there was no harm or even risk of harm.

We do let others do it. Russians are allowed to fly their bombers anywhere in international airspace, and we are allowed to fly our fighters next to their bombers in international airspace too. And vice versa.
 
I guess next thing will be the "fishing trawlers" tagging along behind our carriers again. I remember when I did a Med cruise on the Independence in 1977 we were met by one of those planes when we were about 1 day out from Rota, Spain. It was all very routine, we launched the ready fighters to go up and meet it and continued on as normal.

the US does not fly nuclear loaded bombers on old cold war missions anymore. nor do we have bombers sitting on the tarmac loaded with nukes.

Maybe you are right? But that may be because for the US, nukes on plans are no longer considered as first strike weapons. I guess I should have phrased my OP more carefully.

That's because we have ICBM's loaded with MIRV's sitting in deep-ass silos that can reach their targets far quicker than any bomber could.
